MVC baseball power shift?

Discuss MVC baseball here

A couple of things...

- Super Regional, not Super Sectional.
- Only one of the teams can win a bid. It was a 50/50 shot and they didn't get it.
- It has nothing to do with the "field", as much as it has to do with the capacity of the stadium and attendance figures. Cal doesn't bode well on those categories either, that's why they aren't even playing it in Berkeley.

However, there are about half of baseball participating schools in this conference who have similar or worse fields and similar or worse attendance figures, except they don't have what Dallas Baptist has.. a good RPI, a super regional appearance, and a possible CWS appearance.

I think we'll stick with Dallas Baptist and hope and pray they don't turn US down.

A prejudice Sucamore Fan? LOL

When they say they don't meet super regional standards it is about how many people they can seat. Their field is very nice, in fact better than most in the MVC.

Image :Yea!:

I know they are making a cinderella run now, but if they don't take baseball seriously, can they survive being so far away geographically?

They do take their baseball seriously (that is why they are trying to move to MVC for baseball and not have to play as a independent. They have been better than most in the MVC since they entered DIV I baseball. Indy State RPI in "( )"

2011 - 48 RPI (162)
2010 - 135 RPI (128)
2009 - 42 RPI (64)
2008 - 43 RPI (143)
2007 - 111 RPI (144)
2006 - 81 RPI (223)
2005 - 80 RPI (149)
2004 - 54 RPI (228)

For those who are stupid,
DBU Avg RPI since 2004 = 74
ISUB Avg RPI since 2004 = 148

Maybe it ISUB that doesn't take baseball serious?

I think you have me mistaken Snaggletooth. As my name would indicate, I am a Missouri State fan. I confess to not caring much for college baseball as 44th round draft picks who are the size of lightweight wrestlers does not intrigue me as many other collegiate sports. I am a big fan of Keith Guttin and the Bears however.

That stadium reminds me of our old park Meador Field. Not as nice as Hammons Field for sure. I'm not sure how much the RPI thingie is worth because they load up on playing good teams in the South and that props them up. It seems they throw their best pitchers midweek against good schools that are throwing their reserves. If a Valley school did that they'd whup up too.

Indiana State takes baseball very seriously. We strive for the MVC Championship every year and this year we came up 1 game short. We will be even better next year but we will have to wait til January to find out.

My apologies to ISUB fans.

Looks like they concentrate their schedule on Texas and Oklahoma and MVC teams.

Here is their RPI in comparison MSU.

2011 - 48 RPI (64)
2010 - 135 RPI (175)
2009 - 42 RPI (151)
2008 - 43 RPI (53)
2007 - 111 RPI (115)
2006 - 81 RPI (59)
2005 - 80 RPI (92)
2004 - 54 RPI (108)

DBU Avg = 74
MSU Avg = 102

Dallas Baptist was better than Missouri St. every year except for 1.

Looks like most of the schedule is weekend series with 1 mid-week game thrown in.

I appreciate the data that you are bringing but Dallas Baptist manipulates the RPI by beating crappy competition on the weekend and throwing their studs midweek against TCU and Big XII schools. With the kind of talent that we have had in Springfield you better believe that we would have been to several more tournaments and maybe another CWS even if we were in their situation. When they start playing real competition on the weekend, they won't be so good. Mark my words.

What planet are you from?

Real competition on the weekend?

SIU?

Bradley?

Indiana State?

Evansville?

Yes those are real world beaters, you must have suffered a head injury with one of those thorwed rolls or something.

All of which are better than Mississippi Valley State and most of the other weekend series that Dallas has played. I understand that they are popular because they are making a cinderella run, but hey they look 2 and Barbeque in this round to me. Let's wait until they at least make it to Omaha before we annoint them the next big power. And they are getting crushed by a Cal program that was nearly eliminated because of a lack of interest.

When was the last time a Valley team not named WSU made it out of a regional? 8 years ago?

You don't know what's behind Dallas Baptist. That is obvious. It is very difficult for a team to get at-large bids as an independent. There's no chance at a play-in to the NCAA's with the conference tournaments.

They blow the Valley out of the water most days. Their stadium is pretty nice. Their seating capacity fits them perfectly and they blow most of the Valley's other programs out of the water.

Who right now is dominating the Valley that one could not understand Dallas Baptist coming here and ripping on some? Name the team.

Yeah, I think it was us in 2003 when we beat one of the CWS favorites in a regional in Nebraska, then knocked out the Big Ten champs in Ohio State who had Nick Swisher on their team if my memory serves me correctly. Dallas Baptist won a weak regional by beating Orel Roberts and then got beat by an average Cal team. I think they are a good little squad that'll be tough but they aren't going to win the league.

Also you have to account for the fact that their addition is going to improve MVC schools recruitment of Dallas. They'll maybe lose out on some ballplayers that they were previously getting.
