About frickin' time! Way overdue.

As a Cub fan since the mid-60's, I'm a very happy guy today.

Never a cubs fan but I always liked Jim. I think most Creighton folk appreciate that he stayed close with the Jays.

Here’s what I know to be true: Hendry is still wildly popular on the Creighton campus and with the legion of true blue Jays. And he can come back whenever he wants and work for the Jays again.

CU Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen told me as much on Friday. Rasmussen had just spoken with Hendry, though a future at Creighton was not discussed.

“He knows he has a standing offer to come back here,” Rasmussen said. “If there’s not room for Jim Hendry at Creighton, there’s no room for me.”

FWIW, Hendry always came across as a great guy. I'm sure he is a great guy. But, he failed horribly with a huge payroll with the Cubs, and there's absolutely no question that it was (past) time for a change. Hendry handled the whole thing with a tremendous amount of class.

What is he going to do if he returns to Creighton?

The guy might be a great person...but if you can't do your job then you need to go. I'm wondering if ownership really just realized he had no idea of how to do his job? Always enjoy seeing the Cubbies flail so this is a very sad time for me ;)

Jim Hendry is a great guy. I hated to see him lose his job. I know the Cubs have not been very good, but hey they weren't good before Hendry was hired either.

The Cubs are the Cubs. ;)

He was given an almost unlimited checkbook.....he spent a lot of money on a lot of underachieving players. 3rd or 4th biggest payroll + 5th or 6th worst record = somebody's doing a piss poor job.
