Eugene Regional Preview

Overall: This is the regional where the entire storyline is about George Horton and the fact that he has coached half of the teams in this field. Austin Peay and Indiana State are coming in under the radar. Which can be a good thing. Boyd Nation gives the following chances of moving on to the SRs: Oregon-67.45%, CSF-29.8%, Indiana State-2.7%, Austin Peay-0%. The numbers here suggest that this will come down to the George Horton storyline teams and that ISUblue and APU exist merely for their fans to pump tourist $ into the Eugene and Beaverton/Portland economy. ISUblue based on the youtube video of their selection show party has designs on more than 2 and BBQ.

#1 Oregon--42-17: This team can pitch it. Really. Three terrific starters and possibly the best closer in the college game right now. This is also the first time Oregon has hosted. The fans will be amped. They have to be the overwhelming favorites here.

#2 CSF--35-19: This squad is a poor man's version of Oregon. They play that same West Coast style of ball that OU plays. The will get people on and promptly bunt. It does not matter if the cleanup hitter is up. It does not matter what inning. If the leadoff guy gets on you are guaranteed to see a well executed bunt. These two teams are the anti-Moneyball simply put.

#3 Indiana State--40-17: Our regular season league champs and a worthy at large. Thanks again for the RPI bump that you gave us Dallas Baptist. Three teams in these playoffs. Heller has done a good job with these boys. They play fundamentally sound defense and don't beat themselves. Their fate hinges entirely on beating CSF and staying in the winner's bracket. Lose early and they have a much less chance than the 2.7% Boyd Nation came up with of advancing.

#4 Austin Peay--38-22: I don't know much about these boys. I noticed that they fought back through the loser's bracket in the OVC tournament so they aren't quitters apparently. They have not played a top 50 RPI team. They probably have more than a zero percent chance of advancing but not by much.
