MVC baseball down the stretch

Pretty good season for the MVC, the addition of Dallas Baptist has been huge, not only are they the #1 ranked team in the RPI, they're a near lock to host a regional.

In addition, Missouri State is a shoo in for the NCAA tourney and if Bradley, BRADLEY!! keeps winning (current PRI of 15) then they too, will be a shoo in for the NCAA tourney.

Even though WSU is uncharacteristically down and has the 2nd worst RPI in the MVC this season (151) the MVC is having a pretty good year.

The only true "bad team" is SIU, but even they won their series at Indiana State.

Conference RPI sits at #6 right now, and realistically can pass the Big 12 any day now.

a top 5 RPI finish for the MVC could happen

Actually, DBU is sitting pretty right now for a National Seed. MSU is sitting pretty for a regional hosting site, and BU is still very much in the hunt for a bid as well. As you said, great year for the MVC.

If WSU wasn't in a down cycle (at least, I hope it's just a cycle), this would be a historic year for the Valley. Glad to see DBU and MSU being nationally relevant, and Bradley being solid. When is the last time the MVC had two teams in the top 10 of the RPI?

Maybe this will help elevate the perception of the league for future years.

The ISU's start their 3-game set Friday in Normal. Will be interesting to see if either or both is tweaked heading into the MVC Post-Season Tourney. INST may have lost Sr. 2B Darek Hannahs to a hand injury last weekend v. SEMO of the OVC. Earlier this year, INST lost two (2) @ 1B (Zahn/Giesler) and SS Friis. Not easy keeping your infield tuned, but the Sycs are now 2 games above .500 and finally getting some decent support from the bullpen to go along w/ their starters. Still have a high LOB %, but have shown recent signs of improvement in bat control. Power hitting Hunter Owen has secured the DH spot, and now gives ISU an RBI threat in the lower batting order. Brian Romero has filled Hannah's 2B position reasonably well w/ BOTH the glove & bat. Prediction: INST takes 2 of 3.
