It's only good news if Drew Steffe is any good. Otherwise it's just news :D

158th best player in the country last year. That's pretty good. Three-point specialist!

BUT

More good news is on the way Saluki fans!

I know his rankings. I also know he didn't play at Texas Tech last year. Neither of us have any idea how good a player he actually is.

But my comment was a tongue in cheek one that goes back a lot of years when it comes to recruiting - used to say it on the Bradley board all the time.

A commitment is news. Especially a guy who have never played a college game. Could ge good news, could be bad news. Time will tell.

I'm guessing SIU adds at least one of Quincy's players. Both are from Frisco, TX like Steffe. Steffe's dad played under Steve Hawkins so there's a connection there.

Welp, SIU loses Rupert and Ebube in the last 2 days. Gonna need to hit the portal hard.

For the SIU fans on the SIU board, just because a player posts a video of highlights from their previous season doesn't mean they are coming back. EVERY player does this at the conclusion of the season.

Also, Ebube got a better NIL deal at Green Bay than SIU was willing to pay him. He was able to get $50k. NIL is the most important thing in college athletics. SIU fans (and other MVC schools) better be able to fundraise or we won't be able to retain talent!

For comparison, Jovan Stulic was seeking between $20-$40k. SIU said no way, and he entered the portal.

SIU FANS, we will have some news about other players in the coming days.

If GB is paying Scottie Ebube they either have a HUGE budget or that is a major overspend. Probably the latter.

Gotten awfully quiet on the Saluki front. Have heard they had a big in recently but still no official news on additional players returning.

May as well get used to it, all Valley teams are going to have to wait until the big boys spend their money and see who's left. Nobody is signing until they see they aren't getting a big check. If you sign someone now it is because they already know it and are looking for a seat when the music stops.

When you look at where MVC talent is going [ signing] and where new players are coming from, there's little doubt the Valley is losing the portal wars. Puts the pressure on coaches to be doing great jobs at identifying and signing diamonds in the rough. Not sure how teams are going to grow attendance ; if the league is losing more talent than they are signing, then the games become less attractive as fewer teams are at a high level, which is already negatively influenced just by the number of new players and unfamiliarity, let alone a talent drop off.
