There's a number of contenders to land that role this year, but there might not be any more likely to pull it off than Creighton.
The Bluejays enter the 2011-12 campaign on the heels of a 23-win season and loftier expectations going forward. Greg McDermott has quite a bit of talent to work with in his second year as the team's head coach -- and it all starts with his son, Doug McDermott. Last year, he became the first freshman to be named to the All-Valley first team since 1952 and only figures to improve his game as a sophomore. What's more, Antoine Young brings a nice outside game to compliment McDermott's inside presence.
Creighton is already off to an excellent start, dismantling opponents (including Iowa) by an average of 24.8 points through four games. If they keep this up, the fans in Omaha will be celebrating their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007 very soon.
