Learning experience for both players and coach. First real challenge of the year and guys made plays when they had to. Not sure what the resistance by the staff was to move the bigger Gulley and Pickens onto Clarkson; he ate the smaller Bazooka and Downing up for 34 minutes with his size and ability to get into the lane and make plays. Everyone was calling for the switch, but for some reason we just wouldn't go to it till about 6-7 minutes remained. It made all the difference down the stretch and overtime. That's one of the strengths of this team having 4 guys 6'4 who can guard multiple positions , with Pickens and Gulley especially quick, long, and athletic enough to be legitimate stoppers. Gotta get some guys healthy; no one is missing games but practices have been limited due to various ailments for Scheer/Downing/Pickens and a couple others here and there. But our depth is carrying us with different guys stepping up.

Could be a possible 3rd straight week of a different Bear being NOW on the heels of a quietly great game by Gulley [16pts,8rbs].He's quickly becoming a very consistent player across the board,/rebounds/playmaking/ scoring. He can flat get to the hole and with those long arms is very quick to the ball off the boards.
The Bear is the largest carnivore on the North American continent; beware the Bear!

I see what you are saying Bearz but there was a downside to putting Pickins or Gulley on Clarkson too. For one thing that means Downing and/or Biz are probably out of the game. And that's detrimental to our offense. Particularly when Biz is out. Our offense was sputtering at times last night and we needed them at that end.

Putting Gulley on him was probably the best option but that pulls him (Gulley) away from the basket and we need his rebounding.

I agree with you regarding Gulley. What a player. It's amazing they way he can score inside and rebound at his size (6'4''). A few of his shots over that huge Tulsa front line were amazing. We've really hit home runs with our Jucos the last few years. Whoever is scouting and recruiting them deserves a raise.

Great Win over the Golden hurricanes.

A very challenging stretch coming up:
ORU
@ The Pit in New Mexico
OK St.

A good MSU run over this 3 game stint, continuing to get the new guys buy-in & gelling..., will set the Bears up well for a good showing/poss championship at the LV Classic in December.

Sounds as though the new guards are fitting in. Crucial to get continued/improved production out of Patterson/Rhine in the post. Now is the time to begin clicking on ALL cylinders...

Good luck to the Bears.

(looking for 3 MVC teams in the Dance, 7 total in the postseason)
When in doubt...Be Bold!

The Tulsa mascot is the Golden Hurricane, with no "s" on the end. Just thought I'd point that out since everyone always wants accuracy when it comes to their school.

Thanks Trout. That'll keep the Golden Hurricane fans from overrunning the board with posts protesting our ignorance.....
