Wichita St fans would feel sorry, but you are right in that no one would feel sorry for Missouri State's fall.

Not sure what more Lowery's big head can do if they keep him. All about the cash.

I do feel sorry for SIU. I love what their program once was, and I really like SIU fans. They do not deserve this one bit.

That said, I've always disliked Lowery. He has always been a smug, classless douche if you ask me.

I get what trout is saying and I do remember the Saluki invasion at ValleyTalk in the mid-2000's where the place became unbearable, but to say that you don't care that one of your conference mates is going to drag a 330+ RPI is just ignorance. Your team will now be hurt by playing SIU and God forbid if they lose to them, your team would be laughed right off the map and would be the butt-end of a lot of jokes going forward.

Now when conference time hits, goes nuts, hope some of your rivals go 1-17, whatever, but during the non-con, anybody who thinks SIU or anybody dropping turds is a good thing is simply incapable of seeing the "big picture".

I sat through a SIU thrashing of Evansville at SIU one year. Too many SIU fans were cocky and overbearing that year on Valeytalk. Too many were smug at the conference tournsment that year. One lady had the nerve to insult me to my face because I was wearing an Evansville sweatshirt. SIU's fall from grace should serve as a reminder that the fans of winning programs should be careful about belittling the programs that are struggling to win. Am I glad SIU is struggling? No. I want them to win non conference games. Do I feel bad for Coach Lowery? Yes. He took that job believing that he could continue the Saluki tradition of winning. Do I feel sorry for the players? Yes. The signed to play at SIU because the Ugly Dawgs were winners. Do I feel sorry for the fans? Nope. Nada. No way. The SIU Saluki program and team is yours and you need to love your ugly baby as much as you loved your pretty baby.

Humility is a xitch.
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

This might sound contradicting but while I enjoy when the Valley performs well out of conference, I wouldn't mind one bit if WSU and SIU went 0-fer :D

Just the way it is, RPI hit or not

This is the best and the simplest immediate answer to the problem that I have seen. DEMOTE HIM TO AN ADMIN POSITION; MAKE HIM GO OUT ON THE STREET AND BE A FUNDRAISER. ETC. KEEP HIM OUT OF THE GYM! Promote one of the assistants to the interim coach position with the possibility of becoming the head coach when the opening is evaluated. If he wins he can get the job and the money will come then. If he can't he also needs to look elsewhere. When Lowery's contract ends or when he decides to do the honorable thing and get out of Dodge things will begin to get better all the way around. Until then, the ship just keeps sinking further and further and further and further.............

How about an over/under on Ugly Dawg conference wins in 2011-12:

Let's start at 1.5.

troutangler wrote:While the RPI hit is unfortunate for the rest of us, I can't honestly say I feel sorry for conference rivals, no matter how far they fall. I know it sucks, but that's like Duke sitting around feeling sorry for UNC when they have down years.

Would everyone here be crying if Wichita went sub-300? I doubt it. I wouldn't expect other fans in the Valley to feel sorry for MSU if we fell that far.

While I understand your sentiments, I disagree. It's A LOT OF FUN to watch an overzealous fanbase crumble when their predicted mid-pack finish looks like it was an underestimation in the non-con...and mid-conference rolls around and they're sitting in the toilet! THAT is a good time. Watching a perenial NCAA winner fall year after year...also fun. Seeing the media darling of the Valley look like a D-III turd is sad.

On the other hand...Karma saw the epic GodShawGod posts and she was not happy! Oh wear oh wear has the bandwagon gone? SIU's rise and their fair-weather fans truely were the downfall of ValleyTalk.

If someone donated enough $$$ to pay the buy-out tomorrow, I suspect he'd never coach again.
