Thirty four years ago tonight, UE first year Division 1 basketball team died in a firey crash at Melody Hill subdivision just south of the airport . All perish in that crash.



Memorial Plaza stands in the middle of campus between Olmsted Administration Hall and the site of the new University Center, crowned by a fountain with the names engraved. Additionally engraved is the following inscription: "Out of the agony of this hour we will rise

My sympathies go to the families, friends, and fans of those who were lost. May those who were lost rest in peace. May those who knew them or followed their athletic careers remember them for the fine young men they were and for the great things they accomplished in their short lives.

Thanks Ace. For the first time in 34 years I had forgotten. It was a sad night for everyone.

I was shopping at an east-side grocery when the word went out over the P.A. system that a plane had gone down....and that the Aces were aboard. I will always remember how a noisy store, filled with many people, became instantly hushed and people stood in small groups crying. This time of year brings back those memories, especially on rainy, foggy nights as tonight is. Thoughts go to the families of the young men whose lives were cut short.
