Valley's best win of the day

Postby SportsFan JasonK » December 17th, 2011, 6:11 pm

UNLV went to Chicago and beat #17 Illinois, 64-48. Rebels keep this up and the Shockers are going to get an at-large bid to the dance.

It's nice, but all the work needs to be done by WSU. They still must go 14-4 or better in the MVC, or win in the Arch (which they've never done so I won't count that as a possibility) to get into the dance.

And I'll say it again, this looks to me like no better than a 13-5 team...and that's being optimistic.

Uh, no.

The MVCs best win today was Indy St beating Vandy at Vandy.

To be fair, his post was created before the Indiana State outcome.

And I think you get his idea regardless.

He should probably wait until the day is over than befoe making such statements.

Honestly, I don't really get his idea at all. On top of that, it seems to be a pretty stupid and premature.

UNLV = WSU's best win.

UNLV looking like a legit team = WSU looking like a legit team.

You can argue road and home if you want, but from a purely profile perspective, UNLV may look like the Valley's best win at this point.

He obviously worded the thread title poorly. But if this is really the Jason King of ESPN, then I wouldn't be dogging a guy that is giving the Valley plenty of love each week, including your Creighton Bluejays.

The UNLV win was offset by Alabama getting crushed by Kansas State and Temple getting beat by Texas.

The net 24-hour RPI adjustment for WSU was -2; from 49 to 51. WSU is not looking good from an RPI standpoint, but...

...WSU has a signature (and decisive) W over UNLV
InSU has a signature roadie over Vandy
UNI's best win so far is Colorado State. I doubt CoSt will remain in the top 50
CU's best win is San Diego State, another unlikely top-50 RPI team.

I doubt the Valley will get 4 teams in the Dance. With 4 teams contending, there's going to be some cannibalism. If it's close between teams 3 and 4, I suspect the Valley will only get two bids. The Committee won't take a chance on picking between two close Valley teams for a 2nd Valley at-large bid.

CU has the national ranking. UNI has the gaudy RPI. WSU and InSU have the quality W's. It's gonna be an interesting season.

Everything we have done up to this point = more quality in conference games. I like the valley to get 3-4 this year easy.

Wins in conference are actually going to mean something this year. When they ask "who have you beaten" at the end of the year, any wins over WSU, CU, UNI and In St. will be considered quality.

Oh, lighten up and stop taking everything so literally. It was a compliment to WSU, nothing more, nothing less.

Didn't know about the Indiana State game. You'll find no bigger fan of Greg Lansing and Jake Odum than me. It's remarkable to go on the road and beat a nationally ranked BCS team. Good for ISU and good for the Valley. I'm not a big fan of these conferences that bring in one-and-dones so want all the Valley schools to do well.
