UL-Monroe @ Indiana State (weds. 12/21)

This is the 2nd game in this 2011 home and home series. ISU won the 1st game at UL-M. Since then UL-M has been atrocious, but they have played a very difficult schedule, including many BCS schools.

game time is 7:05pm (EST) and you can listen to the game (for free no less) here

if this game goes like I expect it to, we'll play down to UL-M's level and win by a small margin (after being ahead by double digits and letting them get back in the game). It'd be nice if ISU could get a large lead and not have to use Jake Odum much so he could rest his foot problems prior to MVC play.

And with UL-M's low RPI I expect our RPI to drop quite a bit after the game (I know it doesn't matter).

I am actually nervous about this game. Sounds dumb considering this team is 1-11, but we always play down to teams anyways. The first time we met them, we looked like trash most of the game. We're coming off a big win and that scares me cause we are gonna take this team lightly now. Not to mention, I know that a lot of the players are already talking about going home for Christmas after the game is over and I just hope we focus on basketball first. With that said my prediction is...

Slow start offensively but good defense all the way through. Sycamores take this one 50-35 and improve to 9-2 to start conference play.

50-35?
There are three rules that I live by, never get less than 12 hours sleep, never gamble with a guy who has the same first name as a city and never get involved with a chick with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Stick to that and everything else is gravy!

Sometimes it's "first one to 40 wins". This game was "only one to 40 wins".

I'm old enough to remember scores like this when Henry Iba coached at Oklahoma A & M. There was no shot clock and OA&M played a predecessor of the 4-corners offense and just passed the ball around the perimeter with a cutter until the other team's D broke down and the cutter was open.

That style of basketball wasn't popular in the '50's and led to the NCAA putting in a shot clock and a whole bunch of rules changes - like the 5-second count and the 15-second penetration line.

Now we're back to it and I have to suffer through a league that seems intent on putting up soccer-like scores. Well, they're soccer-like compared to what would be expected from a D1 game.
