Team grades so far

Postby Ali » December 21st, 2011, 3:21 pm

Based on what I expected in the preseason to what I've actually seen-

A (better than expected) - CU, WSU, UNI
B (more positive than negative) - Ill St, Ind St
C (about what was expected) - Bradley, Missouri St
D (unsatisfactory) - UE, Drake
F (Thusday night for sure) - SIU

I would rather not put grades on my prior expectations so keep that in mind.

(better than I expected) UNI, Indiana St, ISU, BU
(What I expected) CU, WSU, MSU, SIU
(Worse than expected) Evansville, Drake

If I am giving grades....

(A) ......

(B) CU (st. Joes would have been an A, but NU will bump) UNI (Ohio would have made an A), Indiana St (Minnesota...would have made an A) WSU (Bama or Temple would have made an A)

(C) ISU (UNC-W/Fresno St. would have been B), MSU (Ok St. would have been B. WVU or St. Mary's will be B....both and an A)

(D) BU, Evansville, Drake

(F) SIU

Creighton is natioally ranked and has only one road loss to a decent team. If that's not the equivalent of an MVC "A" I don't know what is. I think the same for WSU and UNI.

If you are basing the grade on simply the MVC and you have to give A's, then sure, but I'm thinking of our conference more on a national level when I give these grades.

There are two ways to approach these grades:

Relative to expectations (C=met expectations):

A - None
B - UNI, MSU, ISU-R
C - CU, WSU, ISU-B, DU, BU
D - UE, SIU
F - None

Overall, relative to all of D1:

A - None
B - CU, WSU
C - ISU-B, UNI
D - MSU, ISU-R, DU, BU, UE
F - SIU

Even with the loss at St. Joe's I was very close to giving CU an "A".

I'm not picking on you Ali, and I'm in no way happy with Drake's performance so far. But, I'm curious what your expectations were for the Bulldogs? Keep in mind they've been without Van Deest and Uhlenhopp all season. I'm not sure anybody would have expected them to be better than 6-4 at this point missing those 2 guys.

My guess is Ali will promote the Bulldogs after they beat Indiana State next Wednesday.
