RPI is a large consideration and I agree. However, once you draw the line under Team 68, a look at teams 69-82 may present a compelling case for not going with just RPI. This is more or an Art, as opposed to a Science, and I have no problem with a group of men in a room picking 68 teams out of the so-called Top 90 or so.
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

And again, the RPI isn't used so much to evaluate the quality of a team as much as it's used to evaluate the quality of a teams wins and losses.

The important stats are top 50 and top 100 wins and bottom 200 losses.

Here is what the top 5 MVC teams look like according to Real Time RPI and using the following criteria:

Creighton
Top 50 wins: 3 (Northwestern, San Diego State, Wichita St)
Top 100 wins 3 (same list as above)
Losses to teams 150 or below: 0

Missouri State
Top 50 wins: 1 (Creighton)
Top 100 wins: 3 (Creighton, Nevada, Indiana State)
Losses to teams 150 or below: 0

Wichita State
Top 50 wins: 1 (UNLV)
Top 100 wins: 2 (UNLV, Colorado)
Losses to teams 150 or below: 0

Illinois State
Top 50 wins: 1 (UNI)
Top 100 wins: 3 (Norfolk St, UNI, Missouri St)
Losses to teams 150 or below: 2 (Fresno St, SIU)

Northern Iowa
Top 50 wins: 2 (Iowa St, Colorado St)
Top 100 wins: 3 (Iowa St, Colorado St, Indiana St)
Losses to teams 150 or below: 0
