I thought MSU was already in Conference USA

Casey had me convinced they played their last game in The Valley years ago.

CUSA and Mountain West discussing full merger.

Conference USA's board of directors will meet later this week to discuss the possibility of a full-scale merger with the Mountain West Conference, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

A merger between C-USA and the MWC could consist of a conference with its current 2013-14 membership of 15 in all sports and 16 in football.

Whodathunk that when all the conference realignment started that CUSA would be the conference essentially going out of business? The Big 12 and Big East were seen as good candidates for closing up shop, but CUSA was never even mentioned... Strange times...

CUSA in it's current format is NOT attractive. The MWC is only slightly better than the MVC w/o SDSU on board.

If CUSA can merge with the MWC, I think an A-10/MVC merger would be possible. We'd have to cut a few teams of course, but would be a good league and since everyone already takes chartered jets, travel is less of an issue.

A10 seems pretty content in their ways and not really sure they need our help. It would take teams getting pecked away from them for something like that to happen.

Elgin loves our current 10 team format, but I think we need to improve the strength of the valley if the opportunity opens itself to us. Would love to see us pry away St. Louis and Butler from their conferences. St. Louis has been always interested in us because of travel and I think Butler might appreciate the better NCAA payouts in the valley if we can get back into form. Problem with Butler is that they won't go anywhere soon since I believe the payouts they earned the last couple years would stay within the conference and not follow them.
