SIU fired Lowery "with cause" and won't pay contract

Postby Red » April 24th, 2012, 10:25 am

AD says that athletic performance of student athletes was unacceptable and SIU fired Lowery with cause meaning they will not pay off his contract. Whoa.

“Chris Lowery was fired for one word: academics. The academic performance of our student athletes under his watch was not satisfactory.”

lol. What a joke. SIU has two choices:

1) Man up and pay the contract now
2) Rack up a bunch of legal fees and pay the contract in 6 months

I'm sure SIU has enough lawyers on retainer that the legal fees wouldn't be much Although none of us have seen his contract, it probably has a'Just Cause' in it. Ignoring students' grades situation would probably fall under 'just cause' clause in a coach's contract. Just my thoughs on it

LOL, your right, I'm sure Lowrey is representing himself and has no remedies of the parties clause in his contract. They must not cover contract law very well at CU.

Retainer fees are also never negotiated based on the legal work involved. LMAO.

They must not cover grammar very well at UNI.

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

SIU isn't dumb. If they didn't think they had a case to get off with less than the sum total they owe Lowery (1.5 million or so), they wouldn't have taken this step.

The scenarios:

a) Lowery agrees that he breached the contract with SIU and is owed nothing
b) Lowery attempts to reach a negotiated settlement with SIU
c) Lowery sues. SIU spends 20,000 to 40,000 on their legal fees and the court finds in Lowery's favor; SIU pays a few more thousand dollars for Lowery's legal costs.
d) Lowery sues. SIU spends 20,000 to 40,000 on their legal fees and the court finds in SIU's favor.

In the worst case, SIU pays 2% more to Lowery.

I am no Chris Lowery groupie, but pay the man. SIU is going to end up looking like a fool if his contract is like most other coaches' contracts I have ever read. For cause and academics would indicate knowledge of or active participation of cheating, or something else outside the lines. Just having players flunk is not cause.

Pay the man that had 2 players miss the fall semester due to grades, oh one of whom is your own cousin? SIU's apr dropped like a rock under lowery. clo was no saint i doubt he wants his dirty laundry aired in court
