Just add Murray State, Belmont, and Valparaiso and be done with it.

Why not go east to Dayton and include Wright State. Adds credence to the MVC want to shift east. If that happens fo sure UNI and MO STate should look for a new conference. To get to 12 teams from 7 (after UNI and MO State leave) the MVC will have add 5 rather than 4 teams. Maybe Western Ill, Eastern ILL, or SIU Edwardsville.

Some one just posted something about dropping auto bids to the SWAC and the MEAC. You do realize those are HBCU conferences and teams. To suggest that will get Jesse Jackson all over your case. But, the idea is correct: drop auto bids to the bottom XX rated conferences. The P5s plus will still get their #6-#9 teams in the tournament--but cutting the autos may 2nd, 3rd and maybe 4th bids to the 10 to 15 ranked mid-majors.

The NCAA can and should change their by-laws. Or we can have fans of the better mid-major teams continue to grind their teeth and whine about the unfair NCAA selection process.

Awful idea, for multiple reasons:
1) The whole structure of Division 1 is built around the idea that each conference has access to a postseason. You can't shut off the avenue to any number of conferences. At least those in the First Four have the chance to win a couple extra million dollars for their conference with a win.
2) Following up to #1, the end result is hundreds of schools dropping D1 athletics, and the MVC becoming the new minnows. No thanks. The whole process would marginalize the MVC as a whole.
3) Your assumption that the mid-majors would take the extra open spots is also wrong. I know the NIT isn't exactly a bastion of credibility, but let's take a look at the 16 highest seeded teams: 10 power five teams, 2 AAC teams, 2 Mountain West, 1 WCC, 1 MVC. Giving out extra at-large bids just results in the fat ones getting fatter. The mid majors wouldn't gain. Charleston, Monmouth, and Arlington won't get those bids, Clemson, Georgia and Alabama will.
4) If the power five teams wanted to implement the plan you proposed...I think they'd have done it by now. They like having a bloated D1 because it dilutes the power of the mid-majors. The bottom half of D1 are mostly happy just to have a seat at the table like they do now, and their increased numbers means the true mid-majors (MVC, Horizon, Fun Belt, conferences like those) are outnumbered.

The problem is the top 6 conferences are getting rich. The bottom 15 are getting about as much as they can reasonably expect. The setup hurts the conferences from 7-14, but they're a minority. The solution is not to try and fix the system, because the system would then be changed to something where conferences 7-14 are pushed down, not up. The solution is for us to move up through performance.

The SWAC and MEAC on their own oped out of the FCS FB play offs so the can have their own blacks FB championships.

Maybe The NCAA needs to consider adding a 36 team D1AA BB Championship tournament with teams only from the bottom 15-20 ranked conferences. I am hiding behind the sofa to avoid the incoming missiles!

Agree with every thing the Asian Sensation said. Plus, increasing the NCAA tournament field to XX teams--84 to 99 teams has been been proposed in the past---will just increase the number of at large bids to the top 8 or 9 conferences--mid-major will see no benefit.

Increased mid-major performance is status quo---at best maybe a onesy or a twosey.

For the umpteenth time. There is no f****** chance in hell that UNI leaves the Valley until or if a MAC or Mountain West offer comes along. We DO NOT IN ANYWAY want to be with the Dakotas for all sports. We left that 40 years ago because it was miserable.

By moving to your panacea of a league, it actually increases our travel costs, not that we really care we charter everywhere, because Fargo and Grand Forks are in the middle of f****** nowhere...

Yes, they gave their bids to the playoffs up. There are 11 FCS conferences that have autobids. If they MEAC, SWAC and Ivy told the NCAA they wanted them back, they'd get them back.

That means there must be at least 11 at-large bids in the FCS playoffs. Since a 22 team playoff doesn't work very well, it's at 24. Should those three want their bids it would be a minimum of a 28 team playoff.

Cedar Falls is closer to Minneapolis than Fargo is.

Fargo is just 130 miles, straight line, from Canada. It's nearly double that to the Twin Cities

The distance from Fargo, straight line, to the Twin Cities will get you from Cedar Falls gets you to Minneapolis (well, actually significantly further NW than the cities), Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Sioux Falls, Lincoln, Coumbia.

That same distance for Fargo gets you the Twin Cities, Sioux Falls, Pierre SD, Bismark ND, Minot ND, Duluth MN....not a whole lot of cities to help your case. Oh, but you do get Winnipeg Canada. Then again, that also doesn't help your case that you aren't in the middle of f****** nowhere.

In other words the chance of UNI leaving for FBS, less then a 10% chance of the MAC and 0% chance at the MWC. I'm amazed that some UNI fans think they have a shot at the MWC. Take a look at the geography of the conference. Take a look at the schools that make up the conference. Tell me where UNI would fit in? The MVC may add schools eventually. If it is all sports they will add UTEP, Rice or an outside chance if BYU want back in. If it is an olympic only, Gonzaga.

UNI to the MWC? That's some pretty funny stuff.
