NDSU/SDSU to MVC asap.

New member to MVC Fan Forum but a reader for several years. An old MSU fan but have lived and worked in the in the Dakotas for a dozen years.

Agree that 4 Dakota schools: U ND, NDSU, SD State, U SD, should be in the MVC. Excellent D1 mid major sports. Good folks, good fans, good academics, good sports facilities.

This next comment I know will catch a lot of heat. MVC should split to two conferences: east and west.
East of the Mississippi River and N/S from Grand Forks to Little Rock. Some where on this forum is a map showing the locations of the top 15 candidate schools for the MVC. Notice how they naturally bunch into an east and west.

East can add any of several very good public or private schools: Valpo, Belmont, Murray State, Oakland Wisc Milwaukee, ILL Chicago, ??????. The West would be the 4 Dakotas, UNI, Drake (??), Neb Omaha, UMKC, MO State, and ARK Little Rock--or maybe Texas Arlington. Personnally I woul drop New Mexio State (FBS FB) and Denver (out of the footprint). Two top mid-major basketball conferences and two top FCS football conferences. The two conferences could affiliate for a big nationally competitive FCS conference. Plus, the west could have an Ice hockey conference.

The Dakotas and UNI are cold/cold/cold; but all 5 have domed football fields. U. ND basketball arena may be a little small (3500 seats)---but, can they put a wood basketball floor over the ice in their 11,000 seat hockey arena?

The current western MVC schools (UNI, MO State, Drake) will become the redheaded bastard stepchildren when the eastern MVC schools add more eastern schools (IN, Ohio, KY, Tennessee, Chicago, Wisconsin, ??).
In fact, I believe they wish the 3 western schools were somewhere else.

Getting rid of UNI would a bold move considering that we have 8 of the 10 non-Wichita/Creighton NCAA units in the last 10 years. Bold, but we can see if it pays off in the later rounds...

South Dakota State University... no budget crunch there just a growing athletic budget plus new, and upgraded facilities campus wide. Oh, and per your earlier post, SDSU does not play FB in a dome. We opened a new outdoor stadium in 2016.

NDSU are rolling in it yet somehow they can barely afford to pay their Men's coach $190K (no raise in 3 years), their Women's program may as well be NAIA, "fans" can attend their Women's games for free and still no one shows up. Their "new" arena is a remodel which, when inside feels like a temporary arena set up in a Vegas Casino with no leg room and terrible sight lines.

NDSU, SDSU are not going to the MVC. Neither may be in the MVFC in 5 years. As the MVC schools struggle to keep up FB funding, both schools will eventually move on.

NDSU is paying Richman over $200k(his contract gives him an annual raise), it is still low but he will get a raise if he earns it. The school could easily pay him what SDSU pays its coach but the athletic department doesn't just toss money around. There is reason why the athletic department operates in the black at NDSU and why the $400k cut from the state wasn't even a speed bump while the state cuts at UND created a crisis that ended with 4 sports being cut.

I do agree about one thing though, people are giving lakes the attention that he craves.

I could really care less about how good the Dakota's women sports are. As long as the men's basketball team is good, who cares? Literally no one cares about women's sports. Wichita didn't go to the AAC because of their women's basketball team.

My error. Driving up and down 1-29 in NE S Dakota I thought I had seen a "dome" in Brookings. But, after the numerous crazy times I have been caught in blizzards in eastern SD I would have thought they would or should have built a "dome".

I do not feel like I am being trolled by anyone--who ever Lakes'is-or that I am trolling. My longtime opinion is that the 4 Dakota schools, UNI, Drake and MO State, now plus NEB Omahas should join and form a new conference, or maybe the MVC schools just join and rename the Summit (if the Summit woulddrop/ lose Denver, IUPW, IUPUI and Western Illinois) (Summit seems to be a bad bad word to the Iowa schools). Maybe IUPW, IUPUI and Western Illinois could be the back fillers for who ever the MVC robs from the Horrizon or Ohio Conferences

INMO: the MVC is going to add one to 3 schools now that WSU is gone. All of those adds will be located east of the Mississippi River. UNI, Drake and MO State will be isolated out west and as I have said they will become the MVC's redheaded bastard stepchildren. MVC wants to consolidate with an eastern footprint. The MVC and a new conference (the renamed Summit) will both be top level mid-majors in BB (top 10 to 15 power ranking) and FCS FB---and will probably affiliate for FCS FB. BUT, both will most likely remain in normal years as 1 bid conferences to the NCAA Tournament--SAD, but that is how the NCAA is set up.

The problem is auto-bids to NCAA tournaments. You can't just start a new league and get an auto-bid. There is no way the Power 5 is going to give up an at large berth to any tournament in order to give a midwestern mid-major league an autobid. We're all stuck together...
