MVC Tourney - stay in STL or rotate?

Postby MVCfans » August 10th, 2010, 6:15 am

On the topic of the MVC tourney, I wanted to get some input on whether you think it should remain in STL every year or if a rotation with somewhere like Kansas City might be better. Obviously, the tradition is in STL plus it has a cool name "Arch Madness", but I wonder if things might be getting a little stale there. The city doesn't know it's going on, for example. I would personally be open to 2 year cycles between STL and KC, although I do not want to go move to campus arenas ever. Thoughts?

Keep it in St. Louis. We have a good thing going, don't mess with it.

Stay.

Everything that is in place in St. Louis - sponsors, hotel deals, relationships, etc. - would have to be replaced in another location and would make the event a financial loser...not good for a league like the MVC.

Plus, we should all value the tradition and name recognition of Arch Madness. Name another tournament you call by a name like that.

I would more than welcome a rotation to the KC area. Don't get me wrong I love going down to StL but I think what the downtown area of KC can offer is leaps and bounds better than what StL is currently offering. If anyone has ever experienced the Sprint Center/Power and Light District I think it would be hard to argue against it.

I am being biased being a Creighton fan from Omaha where the trip would be cut down from a 7 hr trip to a 3 hr trip.. but I don't think I am alone in my thinking. The travel time to KC would be cut down for some of the most well-traveled teams (Creighton, Wichita, and to a degree UNI) The turnout with those teams, in my opinion, would be unbelievable..

Yes I like the Arch Madness name but it is what it is.. A name.

I say rotate. I am betting those that are closer to St Louis will want to keep it there and those closer to KC would want to rotate it. It's not gonna happen though, at least in the near future.

Keeping it in SL would be fine, but more advertising would really help.

This thread is almost irrelevant because all the shocker and jays fans want it in kc, while everyone else wants it in the lou. What i think is ironic, however, is how the two farthest fanbases have the top two followings there. Believe me; for economic reasons, Doug will start to consider this.

BRMM: The "March to the Arch" is heavily advertised during Evansville bb radio and TV coverage. Is this not the case in the other Valley markets?

Are you kidding??? Rotate!

I'd love to see how well our eastern members support their teams if they had to travel to KC.

I don't think it'll happen.
