The reason I think Jaylon Brown is at least a 2nd Teamer in the Valley is because he's a known weapon. When you plan to play Evansville, you have 2 guys to guard, and that's it. Everyone knows it. Everyone game plans around it. And he still gets his points. He doesn't have "off nights".

Here are his scoring totals in the last 10 games... 25, 33, 17, 17, 21, 23, 19, 19, 28, 16

Plays on a team that struggles to score... he's one of the only weapons to actually guard... and yet still performs well.

His ORtg is 115.4, with a DRtg of 99.9. More importantly his Box Plus/Minus is +4.9. Compare that to a Brenton Scott who is only a +2.4.

He's honestly probably too high as a 1st teamer on my selection, I'll absolutely concede that point, but I'd argue strongly he's a 2nd teamer given his situation and how he's produced.

Per KenPom, Browns ORtg is 108.8 which ranks him as 27th in the conference (of players that have played 40% of available minutes).
Scott is at 95.8 which makes him 50th.

If you look at conference games only it's:
Brown: 108.4 / 18th
Scott: 90.5 /57

So yes it supports that Brown is more efficient on offense, but neither are putting up top of the league stats.

WAIT! I thought stats didn't matter?!? ;)

I like Jaylon's game. Think he's done rather well with limited options over in Evansville. Don't forget... the rest of his team blows so when he gets double teamed you can't always chalk up an assist since the rest of your team can't hit a shot. He's very limited to his scoring.

He's had a nice career track through the Valley, and capped it off with a good senior season given the teammate limitations.

for ORtg He breaks it down into categories. When looking at all qualifying players (40% of available minutes). The number in brackets is the usage percentage:
1. Shamet - WSU - 126.4 (18.8)
2. Frankamp - WSU - 121.8 (14.6)
3. McDuffie - WSU - 120.4 (23.2)
4. Jackson - Loyola - 119.5 (25.1)
5. Church - MSU - 116.9 (15.2)
6. Ingram - Loyola - 116.6 (19.3)
7. Fletcher - SIU - 115.6 (19.7)
8. Rousseau - MSU - 115.1 (21.1)
9 Kreklow - MSU - 114.5 (17.9)
10. Smith - WSU - 114.4 (19.0)

If you slim it down to Players that played 40% of minutes AND at least 20% of possessions used its:
1. McDuffie - 120.4 (23.2)
2. Jackson - 119.5 (25.1)
3. Rousseau - 115.1 (21.1)
4. Hawkins - ISU - 113.0 (24.7)
5. Johnson - MSU - 113.0 (27.0)
6. Miller - MSU - 111.2 (21.1)
7. Lee - ISU - 110.9 (23.2)
8. Brown - WSU - 110.5 (21.0)
9. Rodriguez - SIU - 110.3 (24.2)
10. Wampler - Drake - 110.2 (20.4)

KenPom doesn't do a DRtg on a per player basis as far as I can tell.

Here are some numbers from http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb

I'm not sure these are as well adjusted for competition as kenPom. I filtered for players that have played more than 100 minutes. I think everyone in the Top 20 after that has played at least 200 minutes except Ndiaye. I don't know what this says about POY, but I think it very clearly shows the runaway tandem for FOY.

ORtg Top 20

Austin Reaves 132.9
Landry Shamet 129.2
Aundre Jackson 124.2
Markis McDuffie 124.1
Luke McDonnell 122.8
Rauno Nurger 122.4
Conner Frankamp 122
Donte Ingram 121.6
Obediah Church 121.5
Armon Fletcher 120.6
Ronnie Rousseau 119.6
Nate Kennell 119.5
Ryan Kreklow 118.4
Austin Ruder 117.2
Jordan Ashton 117.1
Shaquille Morris 117
Zach Brown 117
Alize Johnson 116.5
Deontae Hawkins 116.2
Daishon Smith 115.8

DRtg Top 20

Darral Willis Jr. 88.5
Daishon Smith 88.6
Shaquille Morris 88.9
Paris Lee 90.1
Deontae Hawkins 90.2
Austin Reaves 90.5
Daouda Ndiaye 90.6
MiKyle McIntosh 91.2
Markis McDuffie 91.4
Phil Fayne 91.4
Rashard Kelly 91.5
Jeremy Morgan 92.4
Madison Williams 92.8
Zach Brown 93.4
Alize Johnson 94.6
Rauno Nurger 94.8
Tony Wills 95.2
Obediah Church 95.3
Willie Wiley 95.6
DJ Clayton 95.7

Edit: Little surprised by some of the WSU names at the top of the DRtg list.

If POY isn't on ISU or WSU, then voting is a joke.

I don't think there's much question POY will be. I'd wager from ISUr at this point, regardless of league champion. Even if both teams go 17-1, WSU just spreads it around too much for anyone to have the numbers. ISUr clearly has a big 3. But these numbers are interesting when you start trying to fill out a Top 10.

The only outside shot at POY is probably Morgan, but he's been trending down IMO.

Heading into the season I considered him the clear frontrunner.

I think if you're including Morgan, then you have to still be including Alize Johnson at this point. Especially if Missouri St can somehow get to 12-6 or something like that. He's currently averaging 18.3 and 13.1 in valley play and is absolutely carrying Missouri St on his back.

Couldn't agree more. Morgan def was the frontrunner but with the season that UNI is having, he gets ruled out.
Alize is ahead of Morgan at this point and could be considered if they do make the run that you stated. However, would need some help from WSU and ISU to lose a few more games.
