we're 5-4 in the challenge and just need an SIU win at UNLV to win the series, can we count on the Salukis?

Some of us were thinking 2-7? And one of those two wins ended up being a loss? Few expected Loyola to beat the MWC preseason favorite, eh? I'm excited and pleased about Evansville. I thought New Mexico was stronger (they demolished Loyola last year).

I like the MVC-MWC series for more than it just being a scheduling convenience for two equally-matched conferences. The style played out west is different from the midwest style. You have mountains vs. prairies, football wannabees vs. the football curious, interesting western cities (San Diego, Las Vegas, Reno) vs. some of the Midswest's sleepiest and most conservative college towns (Springfield, Terre Haute, Evansville). I like it because it doesn't seem to push the best matches at the teams that already schedule for the kill.

Actually, I'm just here to happily underscore the fact that Loyola represented the conference well.

The Salukis will be slightly favored, even on the road, won't they?

I hope so. UNLV was pasted at a bad Arizona State tonight.

Coaching matters.
SIU will lose. We have the worst coach in the league and sent the second worst to SIU.
