WSU plays:

Cincy (x2) - #9 (Kenpom)
SMU (x2) - #29
Houston (x2) - #42
Temple (x2) - #75
UCF (x2) - #80
Tulsa (x2) - #121
Tulane - #122
UConn (x2) - #142
Memphis - #174
USF - #309
ECU - #313

VS what would be the MVC if we remained:

Missouri St - #59
Loyola - #102
UNI - #119
Bradley - #124
SIU - #147
Evansville - #148
Drake - #157
Illinois St - #162
Indiana St - #168

So we will play 15 top 150 games (10 possible top 100, 6 of those possible top 50) in the AAC.

In the Valley we would play MAYBE 12 top 150 (4 of those games would probably drop below 150. 2 are top 100 & none are top 50)

I will gladly watch us play only 3 teams that are ranked lower than any Valley team for the 5 teams that are in the top 100 vs 1 team in the Valley in the top 100.

And you are a 1 bid league. IF Missouri St goes the rest of the way undefeated (won't happen) maybe they are on the bubble....maybe.......

But we're certainly not the 16th ranked rpi conference as you shocker fans projected after you all left.

Imagine that. The Valley didn't implode because WSU left. The way they were talking was ridiculous!

Improvement at both ends will help. With stronger bottom teams, the upper teams won't have their rpi dragged down as much by conference play and it will be easier for the top teams to have good enough rpis to provide quality games in conference.

Lance. You are well liked here but you miss Argh’s point.

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t agree with your statement. That lower teams will drag down higher teams RPI’s. That fact is extremely important for teams in conferences that have multiple bids because that is how the at large bids receive higher seeds. The higher the RPIs in your league is best for your seeds to improve.

However for the leagues who do not have top teams with high enough resumes and RPIs to have multiple at large seeds, the only invitation will go to the conference tournament Champion and will most likely be a 14-16 Seed in one of the regions. Thus far, the MVC is in that camp even though their conference RPI is stronger than it has been in the past. They are most likely a one bid league.

Very true. In a lot of ways, the improvement in the Valley has mostly just been at the bottom. It is kind of crazy right now when you compare projected RPI versus current RPI. 3 of the 4 teams with the highest projected RPIs by rpiforecast in the Valley are projected to have their RPI rank climb due to Valley play (Illinois State being the one with a lower projected RPI rank than their current one).

It currently looks like that if Missouri State wins both the regular season and tournament, the Valley could end up with not only a single NCAA bid, but no NIT bids either.

I don’t think it’s the best metric but as we found out last year, the NCAA Tournament Selection likes it, so we received a 10 Seed when most experts said we were between 6-8. The RPI forecast may be off too. Hopefully the NCAA becomes more enlightened and uses more metrics when comparing teams.

WSU recieved a 10 seed because that is what the committee wanted to give them. Until there is a hard fast formula to rank all teams, there will be injustices. As is, they use whatever metrics they want to use to include who they want.
