I don't know how you got that out of my post. I have no problem with what happened in Normal, we shouldn't have left him open. It's also a motivator though.[/quote]

I enjoy your posts. Congrats again on the win. Whatever happens this year, I do think the Shockers have a good shot to be in the preseason Top 25 next year.

Surely ISU will be there too, right? He is a fine coach and certainly has this program rolling.

retire12, blaming the officiating? Really? That's weak. I thought you were above that. You mad bro?

Was the officiating a difference for 41 points? I'll hang up and listen.

WSU Starters: 114 minutes
ISU Starters: 116 minutes

Sure sounds like those jerky WSU starters were in there all game trying to run up the score. At some point, deciding to sit your 2 best players with 13 minutes remaining because they are 4-21 is not really the other coach's problem.

In an 11-minute stretch spanning halftime, WSU out-scored ISU 35-4.

Even with McIntosh, we have a short bench. Our starters have therefore averaged more minutes than yours all year. Last night the Redbird starters played more minutes than the Shocker starters in the first half; the WSU starters played more minutes in the second half. At least that was my perception.

Whatever their motivations, in the second half both coaches probably did what was sensible for their teams. If you're Marshall and you want to maximize your chances for an at-large bid, it makes sense to maximize your winning margin. Before the game, you're 0-4 against the RPI top 100, and this is your last chance during the regular season to play a top-100 team. Winning by as much as possible was sensible, just in case you don't win the conference tournament. Any other team would do the same thing. If you're Muller, delivering a message to your starters arguably makes sense. And more important, if you have a short bench already, the game is lost, and know you're almost certainly out of the at-large-discussion, why take a chance on getting key starters hurt? Hence you see walk-on Javaka Thompson play double-digit minutes, even though he had played only 16 minutes the entire season.

I decided to look up the foul counts from both games:

In Normal
Shockers
21 personal fouls (9 in the first half)
11-15 at the line
Redbirds
19 personal fouls (9 in the first half)
14-21 at the line

In Wichita
Shockers
17 personal fouls (5 in the first half)
18-22 at the line
Redbirds
20 personal fouls (9 in the first half)
5-11 at the line

Overall, the fouls were close to what you would expect with the road team getting a few more calls against them. In Wichita, fouls were a little higher for Illinois State than you would expect, but not the difference in the game.

Awesome game Shockers! Great defense, shooting and overall intensity.
They stifled the Birds offense and forced bad shots & worse turnovers.

Hopefully ISUr can regroup and hold on till MM gets back. After that beat down
I think Arch Madness is only way into the Dance!
