Yep..so that is why it makes sense to hold the 12th spot open for a bit as the conference landscape
changes. If the A10 takes a hit them maybe SLU will lose some hubris and realize that the Valley is
the best conference for them going forward.

I agree on holding the 12th for now. A more likely scenario will be to let Belmont have a taste of the OVC without Murray. One season where they run the table on the league, then lose in the final game of the conference tournament, and get snubbed by both the NCAA and NIT, and they may come running. For them, it's a hell of a lot easier to say we are happy where we are at with Murray still in the league.

They would still get into the NIT under that scenario.

True. Belmont is the most likely option to fill the 12th spot but it would be held open for them or SLU
to make the 6/6 split. Whichever feels compelled to make the jump first!

Belmont just went 15-1, with the 2nd best team being 10-6, had an RPI of 58, but the OVC was CRPI 24, and got stuck with a 7 seed in the NIT.

If they're not coming this year, they'll never ever ever come. If Belmont's response to that result is, "oh well", then they don't belong. I get the sense Murray St would respond to that season by lighting things on fire. That's why they belong.

This guys must know us...

We had a similar situation and got a 4 seed in the NIT. And we decided to leave a conference we helped found in 1948.

No kidding. We were in the top 25 nationally and got a 4 seed in the NIT. With zero help from the OVC brass to lobby for a better seed. If that doesn't say get out I don't. Know what does. We had to prove ourself on the floor by blowing out Tulsa on the road. By that point it was to late.

That Big East wish list is laughable. This is not based on reality. The Big East is not even going to consider Gonzaga or St. Mary's. I doubt they consider any school except the SLU and Dayton because they are both Catholic schools just the like the rest of the Big East. However, UCONN and another non Catholic school is not out of the realm of possibility but it most definitely won't be anyone more western than their current most western member, Creighton, in Omaha. Travel would be such a hassle for Gonzaga I bet they wouldn't even accept the invitation. Even if they split into two divisions the western division would be Gonzaga, Creighton, Marquette, DePaul, Butler, and Xavier Creighton has already said their current travel situation isn't ideal being the most western member of the Big East. What do you think Gonzaga will think? They would have to fly 50-100% all the way across the country 8 times per season just for conference games.

Butler isn't Catholic, but is private.

I have followed BELMONT for a while now(and the OVC)---I have to agree if they don't come now they never will.Nothing wrong with eleven in a non-football league. The MVFC should go to twelve.

Just had a down year or two between losing our head coach to Iowa State and a sophomore PG to NBA. It was a perfect storm but don't count on that continuing. History says otherwise and our record vs MVC competition is solid the last decade. We are a good catch for the MVC and will do well.

How many times has Murray been in the Sweet Sixteen? Why has all of this excellence you speak of not translated into success in the Big Dance? Could it be because you play in a very weak conference, and your win/loss record is a reflection of such? How many times has Murray been to the Dance since Belmont joined the OVC? SIU is as bad as they have ever been and you have not even beaten them the last two years.

Prepare for a major dose of reality if you get in the MVC, even in it's current, emaciated state.

You sound like a Western fan..Lol. Its true the last tough years have been rough for the Racers. It is taking more time to develop our new coach than anticipated. As fir your dose of reality.. The reality is the OVC is a s*#t conference that gets terrible seeds, every tine you are UN the tourney chances are you are playing a top 10 team. Racer teams have been good, winning 3 times in the tourney and numerous 2-4 pt losses. The sweet 16 will come with better seeding and better chances with an MVC invite. Twice we came within a bucket of the sweet 16. Once to the eventual champion who easily went on to the title. And once to the runner up. Bad luck really. All due to the weakness of the OVC. If Murray State gets an invite you guys will be surprised to see us near the top of the conference standings each year.

I'm not in for a "major dose of reality" lmao as I have watched us beat more MVC teams than we lost to in my 40+ years following Racer basketball. Reality my friend is we hold a winning record all time and the last decade versus your conference.
