10-team round robin giving us a true champion is a really dumb argument to keep it at 10. There is no difference in having a true champion with the current format compared to adding teams and not getting the exact same schedule. Pretty sure if ISU won the league by 1 game, and didn't play the 2nd best team twice and had all the cupcakes, id still be fired up. Also, lets face it, the NCAA committee doesn't care one bit about our "true champion." I hope people arguing the 10 team format are just kidding. If the MVC adds only 1 team this offseason, with no plans for teams 2 and 3 in the future, Doug Elgin needs to hand in his resignation immediately.

Pod/RPI based 18 game schedule:

PODS:
North: UNI, Drake, UWM, Loyola
Middle: Bradley, ISUr, Valpo, ISUb
South: MSU, SIU, Evansville, MuSt

Keeps natural rivalries and splits pretty well Public/Private.

SCHEDULE:

Play H/H with your pod (6) games
H/H with two best (or two worst) teams from other pods (8) games based on RPI
Single games against the other 4 teams.

Let's Go!
Please not that pod for UNI. That's instant RPI death for UNI before the season beings.

Problem with the pod system is, that's what UNI would get.

AAC,MAAC,Mountain West. Five others have either 9 or 13.

AAC has 12 starting next year with WSU

I'm not sure what the right answer is for the MVC (or if there is one available at the moment), but the #1 thing I will miss about the Valley is the true round-robin. I still care about the regular season. It doesn't matter for money or national perception, but it matters to me as a fan of the school.

Each pod has (2) 200+ RPI teams...but yes UNI's pod had the worst 2!

Beauty of the POD/RPI scheduling though is that out of these
12 schools 6 were 200+ RPI last year...but you would only have
to play 2 of them twice!

121) Bradley University 3,128,419
132) University of Northern Iowa 2,899,699
133) University of Evansville 2,899,667
139) Loyola University Chicago 2,745,553

175) Southern Illinois University-Carbondale 2,241,413
208) Indiana State University 1,832,975
278) North Dakota State University-Main Campus 1,417,450

Granted, some of that for BU and UE is renting an off campus facility but then again, if they didn't want to improve they'd move back on campus. BU has a nice new 4k seat arena dedicated to womens bball and volleyball.

How do you measure "wanting to improve"?

You can add a minimum of close to $500K to your budget for full ride scholarships. What does it cost to attend Loyola per year? How about Drake, Bradley? But hey, if it really is apples to apples may I suggest you do a better job of spending. I believe it was a UNI poster who stated the public schools have won 24 of the last 26 major sports championships. Not a very good return on those dollars your spending.

Not anywhere near $500k.

ISU Red full COA is $28,930 for in-state, $40,038 for out of state
https://financialaid.illinoisstate.edu/ ... roup-1.php

Bradley full COA is $43,240 (whether in or out of state)
https://www.bradley.edu/offices/other/s ... y/tuition/

So you've got 13 basketball scholarships and Bradley spends $3k more for an out of state student and $14k more for an in state student. 9 of ISU's 13 scholarship players were from out of state but to be fair, residency can usually be established after the first year. Looks like Fayne, Williams, Washington and Clayton were the only ones paying out of state. That's about $126k total difference explained by scholarships and COA stipends, out of a gap of $730k. But that factor would probably let you swap ISU Red and Drake on the budget totem pole.

As for your second point, I agree! Bradley shelled out for a 2 time MAC COY and he flopped. Now we got a Horizon COY. There's no guarantee in this business. If he flops too I hope we go bold again.

Reports on twitter from Dave Reynolds of the Peoria Journal Star that say the vote will be held Monday May 8 and if there is consensus, they will be announced Tuesday May 9.

I sure hope they do the right thing and go to 12, or at least 11. You guys would be a great add to the Valley! Grabbing the Racers and Valpo would be a home run and would make other leagues take notice. Might also entice Belmont to come along.

:+1: 11 (Valpo & Murray) would be optimal. Couldn't care less about Belmont!

Thanks all. I know we want to be there. But I guess its up to the presidents now. Anybody fell like calling their school's president to lobby for ol' Murray State?!?

No?

Oh well, I tried.
