MVC targeting Valpo & Murray State to create 11 team league

I agree that they are related, but having the MVFC being subsumed by the MVC does nothing to strengthen anything.

The MVC taking control of football means that should the Dakota schools decide they want Summit League football and to start their own league the MVC schools have a guaranteed home, especially if MuSU comes on board.

By 2020 the MVFC is going to be 11 teams, potentially 12
ISUr - MVC
ISUb - MVC
MSU - MVC
UNI - MVC
SIU - MVC
NDSU - SL
USD - SL
SDSU - SL
WIU - SL
UND - SL
YSU - HORIZON
MUSU - MVC (FOR THIS EXAMPLE)

Let's say the Dakota's don't like the set up anymore - for whatever reason - and the SL wants it's own league. They go and find members, because maybe their rule is an all sports conference. No affiliates. You play football in our league you play all sports in our league. That would seem most likely. Why? It creates stability across the board. Don't have to worry about members pulling their one sport out.

What does the MVC schools have? Sure, they could still have their MVFC, but it would make more sense to have the MVC absorb it. Create a more stable all encompassing place for members. Give YSU the exemption to be in for just football.

Agreed. I know there will be some angst over the league schedule but that can be worked out. It might even take a couple seasons to try different things. 20 games one year...if not go to 18 with a couple bye's, etc. Don't let that keep you from getting the best teams.

I'm good with 11 and a conference schedule of 18 or 20. I'd like to stay with 18 though.

I'm interested in the rumor that another MVC team is actively seeking leaving. Only thing I can think of - and I said it here - is ISUb potentially going OVC. That makes it real easy for football and basketball. Keeps it at a 10 team league AND MUSU can slide right into ISUb's slot in football scheduling.

I wonder how this affects PIGs. Does the conference tournament move the 7 seed out of the PIG or do we get 3 PIGs? Does the 11th place team get left home and the format stays the same?

Sticking with 2 PIGs means the 8/11 winner plays the 1 and the 9/10 winner plays the 2.
Going to 3 PIGs means 8/9 plays the 1, 7/10 plays the 2 and 6/11 plays the 3.
I'd imagine the 7 slides out of the PIG and we have the 4/5 and 3/7 match ups set before the tournament.

I despise the idea of the 10 and 11 teams playing on the Tuesday before the conference tournament at the home teams place. No one is going to that damn game. It's a waste. Either only take 10 or move the 7 out of the PIG

Do you charge the 6-11 and night games as different sessions?

I can't imagine that game having more than a couple hundred people and no one from outside of those schools for an afternoon game in it's own session.

If the rumors on Valpo and Murray State are true I hope they come with some provisions:

Valpo: Upgrade and enlarge the High School gym they play in.

Murray St: Commit to MVFC football

Entire Valley: Reinstate the OOC schedule mandate
