Good for Valpo, I have no problem with them being added. With that being said, you had to have done more Doug Elgin. Only adding Valpo is just head scratching. This league is dying before our eyes.

An expansion to 11 with both Valpo/Murray is an A+.
An expansion to 10 with only one is a complete failure.

F.

I voted F.

While not fair to Valpo, the grade is not a reflection on Valpo. It's a reflection on the conference leadership, on the process, and the failure to see past the tip of their upturned noses.

Agreed. :+1:

I think Valpo was the correct #10.

I disagree with the decision to stop at 10, but if you're going to stop there.....I think the right choice was made. It's close, but the right one.

Exactly.

I don't see a rush to go to 11 or 12 just to go to 11 or 12. Murray State isn't going anywhere. UWM isn't going anywhere. Belmont isn't going anywhere.

I don't see us adding anyone else anytime soon unless someone else leaves. The MVC has proven that they are reactive when it comes to conference realignment. What was stopping us from going to 12 and adding Valpo and Murray State when Wichita was still in the conference?

agree with everyone here, adding Valpo is great, Stopping at 1 team only is an F grade, just absolute short sighted thinking by the MVC presidents, terrible, terrible stuff.

And so it's announced they will continue to look at expansion for the next 9 months, well, what if the teams we really want to add get taken away by a different conference? Then who are we left with?

Always reactive, never proactive the MVC way

Honestly....what teams are out there and what leagues are out there that are going to grab Murray State? Murray State has never had an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. They aren't that hot of a commodity.

With the addition of Valpo, below is the all-time NCAA records for each 2017-18 MVC member along with the seasons in which their last win and last appearance occurred (in reverse order of effective membership):

Valparaiso – 2-9 (last win 1998) (last appearance 2015)
Loyola – 9-4 (last win 1985) (last appearance 1985)
Evansville – 1-5 (last win 1989) (last appearance 1999)
Northern Iowa – 5-8 (last win 2016) (last appearance 2016)
Missouri State – 3-6 (last win 1999) (last appearance 1999)
Illinois State – 3-6 (last win 1998) (last appearance 1998)
Indiana State – 5-4 ( last win 2001) (last appearance 2011)
Southern Illinois – 6-10 (last win 2007) (last appearance 2007)
Bradley – 11-8 (last win 2006) (last appearance 2006)
Drake – 5-4 (last win 1971) (last appearance 2008)

Missouri State, Illinois State and Loyola have a big opportunity to break some very long droughts next year. Should be a fun race.

Would have liked Valpo the first time around and now Murray.

It is a good move. It ensure there will be plenty of good seats in STL at Arch Madness.
