When conference season starts we will start dropping again unless a couple teams beat everyone.

We only really even need one to separate themselves and then hope they lose in the tournament. Our best bet for that is probably Loyola or Valpo at this point. If either can go 9-1ish in non con and somehow separate to 14-4 or 15-3 in the Valley, maybe it would be good enough? Probably not but who knows.

FWIW though i think this is very unlikely to happen, just outlining what i think it would take.

Disagree. Those two don't have enough meat on the non-con schedule to do that.

UNI is the only one that does and would have to go like 8-2 (DI only) and 16-2. Neither are likely or anything near probable. UNI would also have to get probably two of Arizona, Villanova/Purdue, Xavier and Iowa State along with beating UNLV and UT-Arlington. Beating SMU would be an absolute must because if they get to the back side of Atlantis you lose the opportunity to play Arizona/Villanova/Purdue.

Say UNI beats Purdue, Xavier, Iowa State, UNLV, Arlington and SMU, goes 8-2 (DI) with losses at Carolina and Arizona (N) and then goes 16-2 in the league with losses at Loyola and at Illinois State and a StL loss to Loyola, they are 26-5 on selection Sunday, you get an RPI between 35-45 and a KenPom between 25-35 and I'm not even sure thats enough in today's P5 climate.

I think as a fan base we get a little peeved at Jake for scheduling the insanity that he does but at the end of the day its your only hope for not having to depend on 3 days in StL.

If UNI does this then they will be in the NCAA tournament, no mid-major team has had that impressive of a resume and been left out.

This is very true. It seems like the Selection Committee only cares if you have wins over top 50 teams nowadays. Unless you get enough teams that are good enough on your schedule, it doesn't matter how well you do.

No, I'll stand by what I wanted to say in the first place. The high horse Wichita fans thought the Valley would fold when they left.

You'll be replaced. You were once a cellar dwelling team. Those are very easy to find.

What the Valley needs to stay afloat is for the bottom teams to be where the average teams are. Once you have nobody weighing you down like an anchor, the "conference rpi" etc etc gets much better.

Nobody misses Wichita. Or their fans.

I miss ShockerFever's 100 different screen names after he gets banned from the site each time. He was an avid closet Illinois State fan too.

I think you are giving Marty too much credit. That is the frustrating part for us UE fans. You are correct in one sense, early on, I think he did get more with less, but he has also gotten less with more. He had (2) conference first teamers for two consecutive years and couldn't even get on the NIT bubble with them. I don't think Lusk has had that yet. In the overall body of work, Marty has had plenty to work with.

So far this year, early on, it appears that again Marty is getting more with less. I think a lot of it is when he has his back against the wall, it forces him to make changes. During the Colt, Ballentine, Mock years, he got comfortable with his offense, and it was fairly easy for the experienced coaches in the league to prepare for it. They kept seeing it over and over. This year, the offense has been spread, and we are taking more 3's than in years past.

The way Evansville is playing its very plausible they start the season 12-0 before losing to Duke in their last non-conference game.

I know the Trolls from the AAC will dispute this saying it is all about the Ken Pom, but as of now the MVC is ranked higher than the AAC in RPI according to Warren Nolan:

It is early, but hopefully we can continue to roll in OOC!!

KEEP IT UP!!!!!

It's early if the WAC is ranked in the top 5. THE WAC?!?! Chicago State, Cal State Bakersfield, Grand Canyon (highest conference RPI at 196), UMKC, NMSU, Seattle, Utah Valley State, UT Rio Grande Valley.
