Sorry to make the prognosticators wrong, UNI holds off SMU 61-58 in the Battle 4 Atlantis, never trailed in the 2nd half but withstood a couple of runs. Will take on NC State tomorrow afternoon (2 central time).

Haldeman with 15 pts
Koch with 12 and 8 boards
Pickford with 11 and 9 boards
Carlson with 7 and 8 boards
McCloud with 10

I think the last SMU lead was just before the 10 minute mark of the first half. Per the box score

UNI led 29:25
SMU led 9:08
Tied 1:15

Not sure why that doesn't equal 40 but oh well.

For about 30 minutes UNI looked really damn good. For about 10 minutes it wasn't so good.

Get a win vs NC State tomorrow and avoid a blow out in the title game and this tournament is a massive success.

Pickford will be the FOY. He's a walking double double

Excellent day/night across the Valley as it's 5-1 (2-1 vs. D1). Oooh so close on that Aces game, but a good Bears win, and a BIG shout out to UNI for taking down SMU....never liked Jankovich. Looking forward to the Panthers taming the Wolfpack.

Hope it's a great Turkey Day for all the MVC fans and families 8-)

It's early and there are some other great freshman but Pickford in 5 games has

5 pts, 3 boards vs North Carolina then
16 points, 10 boards
9 points, 13 boards
8 points, 14 boards
11 points, 9 boards

A mini-disaster for UNI, they lose access to a signature win chance. NC State beats Arizona.

All the pressure in the world tomorrow - lose to NCSU and you're quite likely facing Tennessee, and facing the prospect of missing out on the top 3 teams in the Atlantis field.

Another championship game lost on a high bounce 3 going in at the buzzer

Actually the first shot was 2 feet short and the winning shot off a great saved ball rebound was a perfect swish. No where near depressing as that loss 2 years ago.

I'm sorry I was misinformed. Dish network dropped cbssportsnetwork on Tuesday in a money dispute and could only listen to it through a LA Tech Radio station Sorry for the bad info.

I agree with the sentiment since the NCAA has forced Mid-majors to always think about the "signature win" but all that truly matters is that "win" part. Yes, Arizona would have been the ideal resume matchup, but a good win over SMU and a matchup with a quality NC State team is preferable to a loss just to get that matchup.

Early returns seem to suggest that regardless of who you play in this tournament you're getting a chance at a high quality, top-50 (WKU might be the one exception).

I am really liking Pickford. 6'4" and averaging 9.8 rebounds currently. He will only get better too.

Missouri S&T is the former Missouri-Rolla.

Sloppy game for the Braves but probably a good hangover game after the Bahamas. Childs is so good, averaging 9/7 and that will only increase as his minutes increase. The passport issue for Bar keeping him from making the trip might have been somewhat of a blessing because it gave Childs more minutes.

Big game Saturday vs Georgia Southern. Thought I'd never say that.
