Drake beat Abilene Christian 80-73 in Overtime. Ore with 25 points. Friday for ACU is a sophomore and looks good, very pro like. Crowd was 3565 not bad for Monday afternoon.

These third-tier post season tournaments are fascinating.

The CIT in its creation was to have a tournament the big boys couldn't play in. Its format is strange, I read that there is not really a bracket, but 4 teams got BYEs into the second round. Each of the first round games were named after a historical basketball coach. So congrats to Drake for winning the "Lou Henson Classic." They got a trophy for it, and Ore was named MVP. Hopefully Drake can win it all!

The CBI was originally created as a third-tier NIT for P5 and non-p5 to go at it and the championship was a best of 3 series (i believe). I think in its first year ILST hosted 2 first round games; beat Morehead State and Texas A&M. That was fun. Now, P5 (and schools like ILST) teams refuse to do anything but the NCAA and NIT. I'll take Grand Canyon to win this tournament in their first ever D1 post season appearance!

One other tournament to mention...Remember the Vegas 16? Hahaha! They couldn't get 16 teams, so the one time they played it there were 8 teams, and no real "names." I did like that it had a conference tournament-like feel to it with all of the games being played in Vegas. If it could have picked up steam, that would have been a cool spring vacation. Though 16 teams would be too much to fit into a weekend trip. Take the format from the Valley and other conferences and have it on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday (or Sunday).

Good luck to Drake!
