This is a short sided and desperate move by the WCC to keep Gonzaga, and it will ultimately do nothing. It gives the bottom of the conference a slap in the face telling them the conference doesn't actually care about them. It's Gonzaga finding a way to not really be a part of the conference while being forced to be a part of the conference. It was them sucking a little more money out of the conference for another year or two.

Gonzaga will still end up in the MWC in the next year or two.

Can't help but think that myself. Hopefully we'll be an even stronger league by then and able to keep pace.

The A10 has being doing something similar to the new WCC model for decades. Even if Gonzaga were to move on it's still a good move for the conference. I wish the Valley make similar changes to prioritize/incentivize NCAA tournament bids.
