CU wins 66-60. More important, Echenique: 18 min, 12 points, 3-4 shooting, 5 reb, 3 blocks...not bad for limited minutes.

Is Idaho State good or something?

With Gregory combining forces with the POY against an Idaho State team at the Q, this one had all the makings of a killing spree.

Observations from the game:
1. Gregory is big.
2. Gregory is physical.
3. Thank you coach Altman for leaving your good bye present.
4. Oh yeah, and one more thing....We have a long way to go.

Sweet. Has he made a game-winning three-ball yet?

No. To be honest, if he even attempts a three I'll be pissed. True big men should get their points in the paint, not floating around on the perimeter. And yes, I say the same thing about Kenny Lawson.

GE is good but he doesn't change the fact that we have below average talent at the 2 and 3 that will limit the upside of this team.

I'm glad McD saved a scholie for the spring because he desperately needs to find a juco scoring threat. Is Booker Woodfox, Jr. out there?!?!

For a big man, he has a pretty quick first step. Not that Idaho State's big men were particularly quick, but they were big (7a '4" and 285 Pole; a 7'0" 240 lbs lithuanian; and a 6'11" 260 lb Pole). He had a couple of really nice moves for inside baskets and held his position well on defense. Echinque did have a high light reel block which he spiked out to about half court (although the fact that they tracked down the loose ball and nailed a trey off of it took some of the luster off - not much though). Those hoping for Shaq-esque free throw shooting are going to be dissappointed. He looks very comfortable from the line (or did last night anyway). Hit 6 of 7 before missing his last two to finish 6-9.

Kenny wasn't great, but had not practiced for two days due to the flue and was still a little under the weather. Doug McD appeared to get back on track after a slow start. Couple of nice follows. Korver continues to be an assist machine. But he's going to have to find a way to knock down some open looks.

Coach McD was not at all happy about the way they played. He said aferwards that with 3 games in five days they were going to need to get a little time off, but it was not going to be Sunday. I'm guessing there were a lot of running drills today. Poor perimiter defense and sloppy passing at times continues to plague this team.

Couple of more cupcakes this week, and then it is time for the real season to begin. The fellas still have a ways to go, but they are improving.
