Yep, so naturally with Drake down 3 and 12 seconds to go, Phelps sets up a play to get Rice an open 3. He had airballed his previous two 3-point attempts, it was obvious his legs were gone....so, yeah, let's set it up for him and not for Ryan Wedel who was 3-3 from 3-point range.
Game plan for Drake was to pound it inside to Van Deest, who couldn't do anything against ISU's interior defense. No matter how many times it didn't work, Drake kept pounding it in to him. Finished with 4 points and 1 rebound before fouling out with about 6 minutes to go. Nothing wrong with the game plan, but how long do you keep doing the same thing that isn't working? Apparently with Phelps, you never deviate from what you planned prior to the game.
