In looking at some early season MTE's certain trends continue that are very problematic for MM/LM teams. So far I've reviewed 24 tourneys; Ten [10] are exclusively P-5 , and 6 have only 1 non P-5 invitee. 8 are 4 P-5 team events. Of the 117 invitees to these tourneys 81[ 69%] are P-5 teams. A couple as we noted already are just groupings of MM/LM teams like the Myrtle Beach which has a nice field [WSU, Charleston, Furman, Vermont, Coastal Carolina, SLU, Wyoming, Liberty] but no P-5 .

The NCAA has moved to where the major qualifying factor for getting an at large is the number of Q1 games you play and win . With P-5 teams playing increased # of conference games, increased number of Inter league challenges, and now more exclusive MTE events, the opportunity for scheduling and playing those games is becoming bleak. Consider the last place team in the B12 , Texas Tech played 18 Q1 games last year going a pitiful 5-13, Drake played 3 going 1-2 . so the worst team in the B12 had 5x as many Q1 wins on 6x as many opportunities than our NCAA representative. And it's just getting tougher. A 16-16 team from a P-5 will always have a huge advantage in # of Q1 games over a 26-6 MM , and remember, they get to play over half their Q1 games either at home or neutral court, and even so -so teams win a majority of home games . I've said it before they came up with the perfect tool[ Q1 games] and have control over the qualifier[ scheduling] as to effectively eliminate at large MM/LM opportunities. This at a time when the evidence suggests a decreasing gap in talent levels across all levels of D-1 mbb.

That's why they changed the MTE and scheduling rules. It was all about consolidating even more power and advantages in the P6.

Hearing the Birds are headed to Florida that takes place Nov. 20-22.

That leaves two options:
Between the Gulf Coast Showcase (MM bracketed 8-team tournament with confirmed teams: Valpo, Buffalo, GW, Wright State and 4 TBD) and the Ft. Meyers Tip-Off (opponents in "lower" division TBD but likely a game at UVA, Wisc, SMU, or WVU), I think I'd prefer the latter, as long as it's not SMU.:ROFLMAO:.

A homecoming game for our Davis, Banks and JK would be sweet. I wouldn't say no to a homecoming for Malachi either.

Last year's "Palms Division featured LIU, South Dakota, Northern Illinois, and Sam Houston. So, potentially, a nice vacation, a couple winnable games bundled with a road game at hopefully either Wisconsin, UVA or WVU (in that order). If it's a game at SMU, I might lean towards the MM bracketed tournament for the experience of playing 3 games in 3 days. Though, I don't love going to MTEs with conference foes.

Is this a joke because of our schedule or did this really happen?
