Preseason Mags

Postby BEARZ77 » August 10th, 2023, 11:32 am

It's that time of year when preseason magazines/publications for College Basketball start being available. I've sampled pretty much all the usual suspects over the years, and i know many on here like "Blue Ribbon". I used BR a couple years , but last year switched to "The Almanac" , and liked it alot better. It's a joint venture of writers from groups like Verbal Commits, 3 Man Weave, Field of 68, and others and is available for down load 9/20. It's 15.99 on presale [ normally 19.99] and last year had over 800 pages of info.
It's a great format [ which I found much more user friendly than BR] and it's nice having all that info available in 1 file for the entire basketball season. Anyway, just some info.

I'll have to try "The Almanac"

FWIW, Blue Ribbon pre-sales started earlier this week.

I used The Almanac last year too. It was good, but I didn't make it through all the info for sure.

The Almanac was good. Definitely not as flashy as some others, but the depth of information better than most.

I don't think Athlon released one at all last year, and that was always one of my favorites because they weren't always cookie cutter the way most of the others were. They took some bold stances and predictions over the years. And I really enjoyed it when they touched on history - they always really understood it and valued it in a way others just paid it lip service.

I think theres going to be a strong contingent picking Evansville ahead of Valpo

The Almanac is now released. Their preseason predictions: 1). Drake 2). Bradley 3). UNI 4). Missouri St. 5). Indiana St. 6.) Belmont 7). Murray St. 8.) SIU 9.) Illinois St. 10). UIC 11). Evansville 12). Valpo

Looking forward to digging into all of the previews soon.

Their first team was Born, Perry, DeVries, Clay, Leons. Surprised Tyson was only second team.

Looks like an even easier to use format than last year; think we'll see variations of the first 6 in most preseason polls , but doesn't look like it'll vary as to those 6 and I don't see much to differentiate them currently. No clear favorite in my mind.
