That's a good point about the NCAA institutions being directly involved MVJ, but we know many more venues are chosen that are not directly tied to NCAA institutions. I think that's my point. There are a whole lot of issues that go around in determining NCAA site selections. That's why when the hotel issue was brought up, it wasn't a fair one, because it's not the determining factor, but just one of many.

In regards to NCAA history in Wichita and Des Moines, Wichita has hosted multiple NCAA men's basketball tournament games, as recently as 1994, and then the NCAA upped their capacity requirements. Wichita remained below those requirements until recently. Des Moines, on the other hand, has never hosted an NCAA men's tournament game. So if history is a factor, one city would be more favorable than another. But again, that's just one factor.

We've got very historic hotel within about 3 blocks. It's in the middle of the entertainment district and is the first place that Carrie Nation took an axe to a saloon.

The ideal place for a hotel would be where the county has their half-way house for recently released inmates. That's directly across an intersection to the south and west of the arena. Or maybe the used car lot across the street to the west.

The county has no intention of abandoning their work-release program location and wants to charge the city the value of a property across the street from the arena PLUS the cost to build a new facility, even though it's the county that "officially" owns the arena.

In the ongoing battle of the cities between Wichita and Omaha, Omaha has leaders with better vision than Wichita. Wichita has some real dolts that manage to get elected.

There were a lot of stupid things done when the arena was built. Locations closer to hotels were more expensive, so they built it across the street from the work-release place.

I think the NCAA notices those city/county turf wars and that factors into the decision as well. If it looks like the local groups aren't united, they don't want to deal with that. Des Moines has had similar issues, but they seem to have worked things out over the last few years.

Aargh, I think you are giving Omaha leaders far too much credit when you say that Omaha leaders have more vision than Wichita leaders. In a few instances, Omaha leaders may have gotten lucky. Keep in mind, the Qwest Center in Omaha is built right on top of a an EPA superfund site. That is pretty disgusting, but the site has been cleaned up and the city was given the land free and clear, ready to build. You may call that visonary, but really, how often are you given 100's of acres of land for free, surcharged and graded, ready to build? That wasn't vision, that was blind squirrel luck.

Who were the visionary leaders that allowed the land to be polluted in the first place?

I'm sure the WSU can organize a bunch of their booster with mini-vans to provide a shuttle service.

Wasn't this about how crappy WSU's schedule will be if they don't beat UConn?

There was a segue, it happens.

Translated for C0|db|00ded: There was a segway, it happens.

If we're including NCAA Track and Field events, let's not forget all the baseball events Wichita has hosted as well...

The NCAA T&F National Championship Meet could be compared to the College World Series in Omaha, but not to Regional baseball games.
