COLUMBUS, Ga. —Wichita State kept its dream of a fourth straight national men's bowling championship alive by winning three straight matches Friday and advancing to the semifinals this morning at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships.

The Shockers defeated Rochester Institute of Technology 4-1 in their first match Friday and then defeated top-seeded Lindenwood 4-1.

The Shockers lost the first two games of their third match of the day, to Fresno State, including one by one pin 213-212. Wichita State trailed 3-1 after four games before pulling off the 4-3 victory.

"We had some open frames early and they (Fresno State) jumped on that to take the lead," Wichita State coach Gordon Vadakin said. "At this level, to come from behind and win three matches in a row is very hard but our guys focused and found another gear and made the shots. It was a great win."

Wichita State will face Fresno State again at 8 a.m. in one of the semifinal matches. Webber International will face Robert Morris in the other.

Is this an NCAA sanctioned sport or like a club team activity? Are there scholarships for bowling too? Are there darts and billiard teams also?
