A total of 32 teams began the quest for collegiate national titles Thursday, and four men's teams and four women's teams exited the event after the opening day.

All 32 teams took part in 24 games of Baker qualifying Thursday morning to determine seeding for the best-of-seven bracket play. The Wichita State men earned the top seed and were put to the test in both of their victories. The Shockers went the distance with both No. 16 Vincennes and No. 9 St. Ambrose but won both matches, 4-3.

The remaining teams will compete Friday until there are two men's and two women's teams left for the nationally televised finals. The championship match for the men and women will be taped Saturday and will air on CBS Sports Network in May.
