Thoughts on the 2010 Valley men's soccer season?
Evansville is in the CSN Top 30.
Creighton is always tough.
Bradley is always competitive ... but they have a lot of new pieces.
SIU-E joins the league this year.
What say you?

Creighton defeats #21 UCSB:
No. 24 CREIGHTON 1, No. 21 UC SANTA BARBARA 0
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Playing as a ranked team for the first time in nearly a year Tuesday night, the 24th-ranked Creighton men's soccer team knocked off another ranked squad, as the Bluejays topped 21st-ranked UC Santa Barbara 1-0 at Harder Stadium. The win was Creighton's third consecutive clean sheet to start the season, as the Bluejays received a first-half goal from Andrew Duran and more outstanding team defense for the upset victory over the preseason top-10 Gauchos.

Can't wait for conference play to begin.
Three weeks ago, I would have said that Evansville would win the conference regular season pretty easily. With the way Creighton has been going, its looking more like a real battle at the top. I really wish UE had gotten the win over Portland last weekend. Would have boosted my ego a bunch.

What's the story on Evansville this year? They were pretty much the unanimous preseason pick weren't they? Injuries?
Missouri State opens the MVC Tournament by defeating Evansville 2-0.
Bradley-Drake kicks off at 6.

What went wrong with the Aces' season? Their high-powered senior class who I expected to score at least one and usually two goals every night didn't contribute much in October and November. Four seniors, nine goals between them in eight conference games. Having said that, the Aces had pretty good defense, allowing 11 goals in with three shutouts in conference.
There weren't any significant injuries, although there were quite a few suspensions for yellow/red cards. (20 Yellow issued, 2 Red). Despite the reasonably good defense, Coach Jacobs benched junior goalkeeper Phil Boerger in the middle of the season in favor of Robert Randant, but that didn't seem to have much of an impact on the play.
I suspect the suspensions had a lot to do with it, though. Every MVC loss UE suffered (except today), at least one player was serving a suspension. That raises lots of concerns about next year, because it implies a lack of depth.

That makes sense. Thanks for the info. Sorry you had a rough year.
Reminds me of Bradley hoops in 1999-2000. Preseason favorite and finished 14-15. Only there were no good reasons for that.
