Just joined up. Looking forward to discussing volleyball on here. (c:

Another big match for UNI coming up tommorrow (Wed.) night, facing #11 Iowa State in Ames.
Had been planning on attending, but since they moved it to the high school, tickets are unavailable.

Wait a minute. A college volleyball matchup between two Iowa schools both nationally ranked was moved to a high school? Why?

about 8 feet of water flooding ISU's home arena. There are some interesting pictures out there showing the basketball/volleyball floor floating there atop water levels even with the second row of the first balcony.

Of course, it's not flooded any longer, but it will take them until at least basketball season to get things cleaned up.

It really sucks. And it isn't just this match. ALL of Iowa State's home matches were moved there, including Nebraska @ ISU (which drew a crowd of over 10K last season)

That court is floating on top of 9 ft of water. All the locker rooms, training rooms, and whatever else was pretty much ruined. I believe they are playing their entire VB season at Ames HS because of this.

It's really too bad they didn't move this (and the Nebraska match) to Des Moines or something.

I dunno. Keeping it at the highschool gives more of a homecourt advantage. Kind of like playing in the West Gym did for UNI. Or like playing in the NU Colisium (instead of the basketball arena) does for Nebraska.

As for finances: yes, they would have sold more tickets if it was moved to Des Moines, but they would have had to pay higher building rental fees. Plus, keeping it there really drove up their season ticket sales. Even though their season ticket price ($35) was ridiculously cheap.

Wow. That's cheaper than season tickets for Bears. Wonder how this will effect the broadcasting of the match tonight, via radio & internet.
