Wichita State won an exciting 5 set match over #22 Oklahoma tonight.

Now that is pretty impressive. I'd like to see more consistency out of the Shox so that the MVC can have another team in the Top 25

I ponied up for the Rick Kern Premium service, which gives bucket loads more info in terms of rankings than anything you get elsewhere. As of Sept 12 (before the UNI sweep of Iowa St and Wichita win over OU), this is the estimated RPI:

UNI.........5
MSU.......21
WSU.......48
Ill St.......55
CU.........77

now stop right there: if this were men's or women's basketball, we MVC fans would be feeling very, very good about the prospects of getting 3-4 teams into the dance. After the top 5:

EU........117
SIU.......167
Drake....210 (and Drake took Kansas St to 5 sets @ KSU this week)
BU........245
Ind St....254

In the past, I'd have settled, somewhat, for 5 teams in the Top 100. Four in the Top 55, with most non-conf matches done with, is pretty cool.

Evansville has impressed me as a team that could upset some of the Top 5 teams. They are scrappy, never give an inch.

I'm a little late to the party, but congrats to Coach Stokes at MSU for becoming the all time leader in MVC wins (197 conference wins)!!!

Our top few teams look pretty good!

Any idea on where Coach Bobbi is in that regard? I know she recently got win #300 so I wouldn't think she's too far off

UNI moves up to #12 in this weeks AVCA Poll.

http://www.avca.org/divisions/division-one-women/poll-10-3-11/

Somewhat surprising after how the Wichita St. match went. I would've thought that despite how good WSU is, that we would be penalized for having it go to a 5th set. Unfortunately they are the only Valley team in the poll/receiving votes. Hopefully that will change for MSU, Wichita and Creighton as the season goes on

Which is probably why UNI took a hit in the "Pablo rankings", which factors in homecourt-advantage, point differential, and the like.

But as far as the coaches poll, UNI did get the win, and that's all that many of the voters look at (and really, UNI probably only moved up b/c some other teams have lost). And beyond that, WSU is known as a traditionally fairly tough opponent. And it's a conference rivalry, which often leads to come close, hard-fought matches.

The win totals must not extend back to when the women's conference was called the Gateway. With 503 total wins, it's hard to believe Iradge would only have 196 conference wins.
