Tue, Sep 14 Southern Illinois 3 Tennessee-Martin 0 Carbondale, Ill. 6:00 p.m.
Tue, Sep 14 Wichita State 3 Southern Methodist 0 Wichita, Kan. 7:00 p.m.
Tue, Sep 14 Loyola-Chicago 3 Indiana State 1 Chicago, Ill. 7:00 p.m.
Tue, Sep 14 Drake 3 Iowa 2 Des Moines, Iowa 7:00 p.m.
Wed, Sep 15 Evansville 3 SIU Edwardsville 0 Evansville, Ind. 7:00 p.m.
Thu, Sep 16 Indiana State 3 Chicago State 0 Terre Haute, Ind. 6:00 p.m.
* Fri, Sep 17 Indiana State 0 Illinois State 3 Terre Haute, Ind. 6:00 p.m.
* Fri, Sep 17 Bradley 0 Wichita State 3 Peoria, Ill. 7:00 p.m.
* Fri, Sep 17 Northern Iowa 3 Missouri State 0 Cedar Falls, Iowa 7:00 p.m.
* Fri, Sep 17 Southern Illinois 0 Creighton 3 Carbondale, Ill. 7:00 p.m.
* Fri, Sep 17 Evansville 3 Drake 2 Evansville, Ind. 7:00 p.m.

Biggest surprise to me out of these is Jays sweeping SIU in Carbondale. Also, as a Bear's fan, the ease with which UNI disposed of MSU. Once the first two sets got to around the mid-way point, Panthers went on runs to seal'em.

UNI swept WSU on Sasturday. The Shockers put up a fight in a couple of sets, but I was expecting tougher games from both MSU and WSU. Maybe it was a bad weekend for them as neither teams seemed to play well.

I know the MVC is up as a whole this year and CU, Drake, and Illinois State have good teams, but I would be surprised if UNI loses until possibly the tough MSU/WSU road trip the last weekend of the conference season.

After the past weekend, UNI is ranked #16 in the coaches poll, #12 in Rick Kern, #13 by Pablo. Neither MSU or WSU received votes in coaches or Kern, not sure if either made it into the Top 40 with Pablo.

Thanks for the info. How/where do you get the Pablo numbers? From subscribing to Rick Kern's site?

The Valley is looking very strong, strong as I can recall is ever being from top to bottom with the top 8 teams in the top 105, 6 in the top 64. Hopefully the conference will get multiple bids this year.

That is where I got it, yes. Don't know if they're available elsewhere or not.

I've never really followed Pablo as a whole closely in previous years (just tracking UNI's ranking the past season or two). But I'm guessing some of those MVC teams in the top 64 will drop a bit as the conference season progresses. But who knows.

I'd certainly LIKE to think that the Valley is strong enough to get 3 or more teams in, but I wouldn't feel comfortable enough to bet on it. (I'd also really like to see UNI be able to host the first weekend, but I really doubt that will happen, based solely on having to compete geographically with Nebraska, Iowa State, Minnesota, etc.)

Results from Friday Oct 1:

In Friday night MVC volleyball action, Southern Illinois earned its first league victory of the season, snapping a three-match winless streak in a 3-0 sweep on the road at Bradley. Creighton and Drake were also 3-1 winners on the road, topping Illinois State and Indiana State, respectively. No. 15 UNI was the only home team to secure a victory, a 3-1 decision over visiting Evansville.
