2022 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament

Postby Bulldog2323 » November 17th, 2021, 5:50 pm

The 2022 Tournament will expand to 68 teams to match the men. The first four games will be on 4 of the campus sites of the top 16 seeds for 2022 before moving to neutral site for 2023. To accommodate, the selection show/announcement will be moved to Sunday.

Right now ESPN has Missouri State a 6 seed with no other Valley teams qualifying short of winning Hoops in the Heartland.

MSU Lady Bears, a #11 seed will be playing Florida St another #11 seed in Baton Rouge on the LSU campus at 8:00 pm on Thursday. ESPNU I believe. Really proud of this team given the major injury losses early in the season; lost both starters on the frontline including most likely POY forward Jasmine Franklin and starting post Abby Hipp to ACLs. But here we are again , death, taxes, Lady Bears in the NCAA's.

Lady Bears win opening game against Florida State by 11, 61 -50; just Lady Bears doing Lady Bear things in March. Play 6th Seed Ohio St on Sat. Meanwhile , Illinois St has tough time of it vs Iowa going down by 40, 98-58.

I know it doesn't help much this year, but the Belmont women won their first round game for the second year in a row. Twice now, they have been the 12th seed and knocked off the 5th seed. They beat Oregon in double overtime yesterday.

They only have 2 seniors, so I expect a majority of the team to return for play next year. Hopefully, transfers do not take a toll on them. I'm hoping the women's team coming to the Valley will be just as exciting for the league as the men.

I look forward to Belmont joining on the WBB side. It's an excellent MM conference, actually better than the Mens side when you compare nationally. Drake, UNI, and Missouri State are traditionally very good, Illinois St is on the rise and the lower end of the league was improved this year. Belmont should be able to be a top 4-5 is my guess for next year, although as you indicated, everyone has to sweat out the transfer market, as well as Missouri state is likely to lose their coach . Lady Bears lost a tough one to Ohio St yesterday , and it could be a transition year if Mox leaves , but we'll still be in the mix.
