Shox Get Unusual Walkon

Sky Williams, 6'2" SG from Tuckahoe, NY apparently enrolled at WSU last fall and will be eligible this year. He's a friend of Early's.

Williams averaged 27.8 ppg in HS, led his team to a 25-0 record and a state championship in Class C, which appears to be a small HS classification in NY. He was on the 2013 U.S. Elite Basketball team.

He's in Florida working out with Cleanthony Early and Scottie Wilbekin right now.

Putting his HS stats together with his membership on a US Elite team, and working out with some studs this spring, it just doesn't add up that he paid his own way last year (somehow Manhattan is involced - he may have enrolled there or signed an LOI - that's not known), and will be a walkon this year.

This looks like the most mysterious and unusual walkon Marshall has had, and he's had some odd ones - including Malcolm Armstead, Ron Baker, and Lufile Coleby.

Definitely looks like he was enrolled at Manhattan in 2012-13

It appears that he was a walk-on there

Amazing how many great players Wichita can get that gladly pay over $20,000/year to not play as opposed to getting scholarships at other schools and playing right away.

The magic of Gregg I guess.

Not sure where you got "great player." I guess maybe compared to some of the other walk-ons in the league.

He appears to have been a pretty good prep basketball player, and appears to be pretty good friends with someone who's about to get a 1st Rd NBA payout in Early. I can easily envision a whole lot of scenarios that make a lot more sense than what you keep implying; in this case something as ridiculous as risking incurring NCAA violations during a period of previous and ongoing Top 20 program success for the short-term services of a walk-on practice squad player.

Might be time for you to give it a rest.
