Christian Romine to ISUr

Former UTEP big man is transferring to ISUr. UTEP Coach Floyd promised a redshirt year but that was pulled after a few injuries to other players. Only saw 50 minutes of action so wanted out of UTEP after that. He will sit out this season and have 3 years of eligibility for the Redbirds.

Several Valley schools had interest but he fits that athletic big man type that Muller likes. Here is an assessment from Romine's HS coach:

Christian's main asset is his athleticism. With one step, Christian's vertical is 39", and that's standing at 6'10" and weighing 220lbs. With a year to redshirt, his goal is to be 235lbs by the time he plays. Christian has an amazing hook shot with both hands, but more-so the right. He gets high enough that he almost superman's it into the rim. Christian has a nice shot from the outside, up to about 15 feet, however he needs to pick and pop or catch off the pass, rather than create his own from the outside. Defensively, right now, he's a great shotblocker on the weakside, and with added strength can be a huge asset defensively.

Seems like a nice get but the Birds now have two transfers sitting out next season. Really need a 3 & D JC wing that can provide help right away with their final offer.

I think he has potential. But a long way to go. Maybe the year out will help him.

I would be pretty surprised if Romine ever does much in the MVC. I say the same for Alex Foster at Bradley.
