UNI gets most heralded recruit in program history.

6-3 175 PG AJ Green from Cedar Falls.

Consensus Top 100 recruit and as high as the 60s in some readings. Unreal feel for the game, tremendous shooter with Ellie pull up game.

UNI is absolutely loaded going forward.

The recruiting rankings like him a lot. I'm a little surprised he didn't have more BCS offers. Did Iowa ever offer?

Gentlemen's agreement. Jake and Fran get along really well and Fran didn't recruit AJ and Jake didn't/won't recruit Fran's boys.

He was light on offers because a lot of teams thought UNI was a foregone conclusion. It wasn't.

Both him, and his father, said that schools told him they were hesitant to offer because they/everyone just assumed it was a forgone conclusion he wasn't leaving town. As his stock went it up it was clear that the only type of program that was going to pull him out of Cedar Falls was a blue blood type school. No one else really tried to fight too hard. UVA, Iowa State and Clemson all tried but over the last two weeks saw the writing on the wall and accepted what was going to happen

There was an article a few weeks back that really focused on that point when he said he'd decide by the time school started. The guy did some research and found guys with similar rankings/AAU numbers generally had 20-30 offers. AJ finished at 8

Very good (if unsurprising) get for UNI. Not often that you see a top-100 kid go to an MVC school directly out of high school.

By all accounts a very good get for UNI; looks like a prototypical Jake guy on tape. smart, good shooter. Perhaps shiftier with the ball than you'd suspect. UNI should be well covered at pg with him and last years frosh starter.
That said, not quite sure I agree with the "absolutely loaded going forward" assessment. As with any team, we have to see how some of the newer players develop in the next few seasons, but they need some playmakers to emerge in their sophomore and junior classes.

You'll see Juwan McCloud a year older. Tywhon Pickford was the best prospect in Minnesota until a knee injury between his Sophomore and Junior years and had Izzo sniffing around at the end. Austin Phyfe is going to be an outstanding center that will redshirt this year per his father's request so that he can have an age 23 season instead of an age 19 season.

The train is about to really start rolling in Cedar Falls

Green is actually a higher ranked recruit than Shamet. Hopefully not injury prone, either!

Hard to tell, Shamet was an across the board 4 star; I noticed after this summer Green was upgraded on Rivals from a 3 to a 4 , so he's right there as far as rankings now.
