UNI should be really good this year. I'm saying this is a 50/50 type game.

Whoever wins the turnover battle will win the game.

Iowa State scores a touchdown with 40secs left in the fourth quarter to win 20-19.

Northern Iowa led 13-7 before the two teams combined for three touchdowns in the final 4:30 to keep the crowd of 54,672 -- the largest ever for an Iowa State home opener -- guessing until the end.

Jantz threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Josh Lenz on a fourth-and-10 play to put Iowa State up 14-13. But on the next play, Tirrell Rennie lofted an 80-yard touchdown pass to David Johnson to put the FCS Panthers back on top, 19-14.

Jantz then took Iowa State back down the field for the game winner. His 32-yard pass to Aaron Horne put the ball at the Northern Iowa 2 and the Cyclones got it into the end zone on three straight sneaks by Jantz.

Iowa State scored a touchdown at the halftime horn and again in the final minute of the game. Once again, UNI's prevent defense merely prevented them from getting a win.

UNI never seems to be able to get the job done. Look at the game at Trice a few years ago when they missed a late FG. Look at the game in Iowa City in 2009, missed the game winning FG twice due to an agregious referreeing error that gave them a second chance. And then last night. It is great that they are close to their instate brethren that give them little thought, but they got to get the job done sometime if they want the respect.

I respect your opinion when you say UNI can't finish big games, although 2007 was obviously an exception to that.

As for 2009 in Iowa City, there was no officiating error. The clock was properly stopped after the first kick was blocked and recovered by UNI. The NCAA rule book says the clock stops at the end of every kicking down, and the ball was definitely kicked.

As for last night's game, both defenses had a great first half, and it seems like they both got tired as the game wore on. Having a few less bodies, maybe UNI's defense was more tired, and that was probably the difference.
