joe- Why isn't ISU ranked as high as SIU, aren't they going to be tough?

sly: ISU has gotten some recognition with pre-season rankings (13 in Steele, 16 in Sporting News), but the truth is the FCS and the MVFC are tough. SIU returns alot from a team that dominated the MVFC on a weekly basis last season, and SDSU took ISU down by a large margin in Normal last year. I'm optimistic for this season, but our current standing is around where I would guess too.

underdawg: My guess is Matt Brown (Marion) will start. I don't have any inside knowledge of that, but they're selling replica #13 jerseys in the bookstore, and he was voted pre-season All-MVFC. I don't see how he wouldn't start. He did have a weight lifting accident early this summer that resulted in the loss of the end of his pinky finger on his throwing hand, but I've heard it shouldn't be an issue.

Has anyone heard about FBS transfers at other MVFC schools?

I see your point but get this: Saluki Junior DE Kyle Russo (6'3" 255) who led the team in sacks as a back-up last year AND was picked first team pre-season MVFC has (so far) been beaten out by senior Jason Seaman (6'5" 270)---so coaches apparently have an agenda that sometimes does not match with the media voters in these pre-season polls :D So even though Matt probably will start--I'm sure there may be some real competition.

Also two key JUCO transfers are:

5'11" 210 OLB Blair Lane of Harper CC (runs a 4.5 second forty)

Got to hand it to Coach Lennon at SIU---last week we learned that one of our two starting safeties was out for the season (Rashad Graham) so this week he signed TyRance Stuckey of Harper CC.

TyRance is 5'11" 200 and runs a 4.4 second forty--so problem solved.
