It’s a fantastic league for all the schools and a significant upgrade of the Summit.

The only schools that would have similar academics are Ill St ad Mo St, but those don’t have much STEM programs or research. The MVC is a very weak research and academic conference and that is why Murray St is assumed in.

This will happen and the Dakota schools won’t look back, regardless of the MVC’s snobbery.

This has been a dream of the No Dak and Montana schools going back a couple generations. Too many weak schools in the respective conferences now. But joining together will create something much better. Your recruiting will suffer as a result.

Maybe you should just annex into Canada.

Illinois might as well be annexed by Communist Cuba or a Socialist dictatorship Venezuela. Everybody that has sense wants to leave. The MVC’s future is far from secure.

Yes. This is what happens when your conference is composed of small privates and non-flagship publics. I would bet at least 90% the research dollars in Indiana go to Indiana, Purdue & Notre Dame, where there are plenty of graduate students to actually do the research. Comparatively no funding to the undergraduate focused institutions like Valpo, Evansville, or ISU Blue.

Man, you are delusional. But I respect your commitment and devotion to a hypothetical league. As well as your thinking that the Dakotas/Montana schools are some kind of academic powerhouses. :buddies: :buddies: :buddies:

I realize these are not Stanfords, but their not community college level as much of the MVC is either. Many grad programs are elite and med and law and engineering programs abide. For example, UND leads the nation in aviation technology, including UAV tech and the 3D implementation of it. Harold Hamm, the billion shale oil company owner, was just on campus as our Geology and Geological Engneering school was named in his honor after he gave bucks

they're*

And there is not one "elite" medical or law program in the Summit League. Nor in the MVC. Loyola probably has the best argument, but I would classify them as "solid"--not "elite".

But this is getting too far off topic. The addition of UND and the Montana schools will NOT put the Summit on par, from a basketball perspective, with the MVC. Especially if the MVC adds Murray State.

You made my point. The MVC doesn t know the meaning of elite. It's a league of former teacher colleges that got big heads over basketball. It doesn't know the meaning of real STEM departments.

Huh? You said: "Many grad programs are elite and med and law and engineering programs abide." While that sentence doesn't really make sense grammatically (weird usage of "abide"), I believe you are implying that many of the medical, law and engineering programs at Summit schools are elite. I pointed out to you that the Summit League does not have a single elite law or medical program (I do not know enough about engineering programs to opine). Please point out to me one "elite" law or medical program in the Summit. I am not even sure half of the Summit League has law programs.

Anyway... Here's Jerry Colangelo, who is pretty tied in with GCU athletics discussing realignment:

http://arizonasports.com/story/1417784/ ... inue-grow/

(relevant section runs 15:42-17:11)

Host brings up notion of a GCU-BYU rivalry and asks about the possibility of GCU joining the WCC

Colangelo states that he loves the idea and would love to compete against the likes of Gonzaga and St Mary's

States also that there are a lot of weak links in the WCC chain and that a conference is only as strong as its weakest link This line is good news for any fans of GCU to the MVC as the MVC is the strongest of their options. That said, the Q1 and probable Q1 games Gonzaga St Mary's and BYU would provide would probably be too much to pass up assuming the WCC can be bought.

Also acknowledges the murkiness of realignment. Says there's a lot of speculation about where GCU and the WAC will be in 1-3 years and that he doesn't know or have any answers.

Sounds to me they're exploring their non-WAC options but aren't close on anything. Plus, there's a lot to consider. GCU's move could touch off a fairly sizeable realignment among leagues.

It would behoove the MVC to expand more and then split into public and private schools like the Big East did. The privates detest football, which is more and more driving the boat. Expand to 14 then split. Down the road, someone's really going to get hurt by your dysfunctional league.

Nah, we're all pretty happy right now. Turns out Wichta's constant grandstanding brought everybody together. The league is as stable as its ever been. UNI, Illinois State and Missouri State are literally the only schools that would have the possible option to get out and those are the 3 schools leading the expansion committee and realistically, I don't think any of them would sacrifice MBB for FBS football at this point. Indiana State and SIU are budget nightmares that don't want to have any additional costs.

As far as the Privates leaving, where are they going to go? Evansville, Drake, Loyola and Valpo have no options. I guess if Bradley wanted to jump on the island with SLU in the A10 they might be able to but why would they leave the rivalries they've spent 40 years developing.

But sure, the AMCU/MidCon/Summit is going to get to the same level as the Valley. That league has been nothing more than a foot in the door to DI to get to where you really want to go. I'm sure UNI and Missouri State regret leaving it in the early 90s every single day. If only they could be associated with the mighty academic institutions of the Summit League.
