3x3 Tournament

Postby ptownbraves » March 31st, 2018, 8:11 am

The MVC has a team representing the 3x3 tournament. The rosters are made up of seniors that were chosen by a committee from teams throughout the conference. It's pretty impossible to find information on results, scores, etc, but it looks like the MVC won a game yesterday against the Big South and matches up against the American East team today. The MVC roster looks like it is made up of:

Donte Thomas - Bradley
Brenton Scott - ISUb
Bennett Koch - UNI
Tevonn Walker - Valpo

The games started yesterday and go through Sunday. You can watch it on ESPN2 or twitter https://twitter.com/3X3UHoops.

I think this tournament was a fantastic idea but ESPN did not promote it very well. I watched the semi-final and third place game yesterday and it sure was entertaining. Unfortunately, the Big 10 won it all but there was 100k up for grabs this weekend. 50k went to the champion and the rest was disbursed by win. So, if the MVC went 1-2 in pool play games they brought in 1k for the team or $250 for each player.

If you like "good" basketball its definitely not for you. It's fast and half court. After a make, the team on defense gets the ball out of the net, takes it beyond the 3pt line and then goes. It's FAST and different.

This was not a good year for our conference to have this tournament. Alize is likely preparing for the draft, Timmer probably didn't want to miss school or give up his spring break, and Custer, Jackson, and Ingram were all playing in the Final 4. Next year with Custer, Fayne, Evans, Townes, and all those guys likely available the teams should be much better.
