BLOOMINGTON — Illinois State basketball star Milik Yarbrough surrendered to authorities shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday and was at an afternoon bond hearing where a $1,500 personal recognizance bond was set on reckless conduct charges.

He was released from jail late Tuesday afternoon.

According to the statement from an arresting officer, Yarbrough and a former girlfriend, Tiarra Kindle, 18, were involved in a confrontation at his residence on Kingsley Street in Normal in late April when she allegedly ran out of the apartment with his cell phone.

Yarbrough pursued the woman and, after his phone was recovered, “pushed (the woman) in the back as she was walking down the stairs, thereby endangering her safety,” said the officer’s report.

Kindle also faces misdemeanor criminal damage to property charges for the damage she allegedly caused to Yarbrough’s phone. She also was released on a no-cash bond following her arrest May 4, about a week after the incident.

As a condition of his bond, Yarbrough was ordered to have no contact with the woman.

ISU head basketball coach Dan Muller said "we are aware of the situation and are handling it internally."

Yarbrough, who just completed his junior year with the Redbirds and was named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year and an all-league first-team selection, has hired lawyer Joshua Rinker to represent him on the Class A misdemeanor charge.

He is due in court May 22.

Court documents indicate Yarbrough was granted an emergency order of protection against the woman on April 27. A hearing to extend that order is set for Friday morning.

Looks like ISU made him get a restraining order after this incident because he got one after this incident. The incident was in late April and restraining order was April 27th. Why does it take 10 days to investigate a cell phone/push issue? Also, you don't get a PR bond for violence against a woman. Doesn't add up.

Going by ISUs past, looks like somebody isn't going to get to run with the first team for the first 5 minutes of the first practice.

What a shitty culture.

Doubt he's even suspended. Doesn't seem like he did anything. You don't get a PR bond for violence against a woman. And, she is listed in the report not him. And, he got a restraining order. I'm betting charges are dropped.

If he did push a woman then he needs suspended several games.

Come on, admit you don't know what you're talking about. I've practiced criminal law in Illinois for 9 years.

He got an emergency restraining order against her after the incident because she stole his cell phone. You can get an emergency restraining order against a ham sandwich. The judge gives it to you and sets a plenary date where you actually have to prove it up. If anything it's insulting to her, because she's the one who was pushed--in the back--down stairs. The judge at the bond hearing actually ordered one against him because he felt it was appropriate, with more facts.

Why does it take 10 days to investigate a cell phone/push issue?

The state's attorney's office has 18 months to bring charges. Why is 10 days a lifetime? The investigator probably interviewed her and tried to interview him before determining they had enough to bring charges.

Also, you don't get a PR bond for violence against a woman.

Says who? There's actually been a recent push in Illinois to give more PRs so people aren't sitting in the clink because they can't afford bond. If he hasn't missed a court date (actually, he has for another Class A charge in DWLS, but only 1) and the judge doesn't consider him a flight risk, they'll PR him.

And, she is listed in the report not him.

I don't even know what this is supposed to mean. Are you claiming to have seen the unredacted police report?????

Here's what we know. The McLean Co. States Attorney has brought a charge of reckless conduct against Yarbrough for allegedly pushing a woman in the back as she was walking down stairs. Maybe it isn't true but they must think there's enough there. But this isn't the first time Yarbrough has landed in the McLean jail.

Doesn't matter what either of us want. But the kid is a punk and makes it easy to root against your team.

Illinois State had a player arrested, and plead guilty, to felony drug charges and didn't miss a single football related avtivity. AAMoF his 12 day off season suspension was lifted within 2 hours of him pleading guilty.

He'd had to have crushed her skull for Muller to take action against him.

It's funny, Muller's statement today is the exact same, word-for-word, as his statement when Yarbrough was arrested for stealing a cell phone. Like he just has a cut and paste ready to go for these.

Yarbrough, also 20, was charged with theft in connection with the same incident involving the iPhone. Yarbrough and Clayton were both released on $5,000 personal recognizance bonds and ordered to be back in court on Nov. 1.

According to ISU Police Chief Aaron Woodruff, the charges relate to a report of a stolen phone in September by an ISU student. Investigators learned the phone was recently reactivated and were able to determine its general location.

Clayton took the phone and gave it to Yarbrough, according to the police chief. The victim’s wallet also was recovered, said police.

"We are aware of the situation and are handling it internally," said Redbirds coach Dan Muller.

Are Redbird fans getting tired of this yet? It seems like it would get so tiring and embarrassing to have something like this popping up every year and nothing changes. Plus between this and all of the scholarships they’re giving out without room I feel like at some point it’d have an impact on the ability to recruit.

Obviously not every kid on that team is a bad egg but is there any discipline at all? Is Yarborough growing at all as a person? Can Muller put together a team together with the chemistry to get over the hump? They have had the talent no doubt; but can’t put it all together.

In order...

Yes. Tired of reading about Redbirds in the news off the court.
No, not embarrassing.
Scholarships are in flux with every school. The limit doesn't apply until they tip off.
Yes, there's discipline.
How in the world can any of us answer about MYs personal growth.
This is to be seen. Hopefully we have the chemistry this year. 4 seniors and an impact junior who was with the team all year should help.
They've put it together enough to run into a final four team in the MVC finals and lose out. Many, many teams across the country lose to Loyola in that spot. Kudos to Loyola.

No woman should ever be pushed... ever. For any reason.
That being said, everyone on this board knows 5% of this entire story... if that.
